Laurie Cannister has won four of five races this season. She's reached the finals in every event in 2008.
Laurie Cannister has a tough challenge headed into this weekend’s IHRA Canadian Nationals in Grand Bend, Ont. She has to find a way to top her latest victory two weekends ago in Edmonton, Alb.

Cannister traveled 2,200 miles to win her 14th career national event and fourth of the season. The former Pro Outlaw champion turned Alcohol Funny Car driver has reached the final round of every event this year.

“Edmonton was, and probably will be, the toughest win to accomplish,” Cannister said. “We didn't have any information to look back on to tune the car at that altitude. Dale sat for hours studying and trying to decide the best way to approach it. The double-edged sword in Edmonton was the weather. Even though the rain delays made for very long days for everyone, it gave Dale extra time to study each pass and come up with the tune up for the next pass. And it worked! After getting the first pass on Friday to start accumulating data, he kept making the right decisions.” IHRA Alcohol Funny Car phenom struts her stuff …

Even though the rain delays made for very long days for everyone, it gave Dale extra time to study each pass and come up with the tune up for the next pass. And it worked! After getting the first pass on Friday to start accumulating data, he kept making the right decisions.”

Cannister will only have to travel 325 miles this weekend to Grand Bend. While she may not have envisioned reaching the finals at every event this season in 2008, she did say her philosophy headed into the incredible season has never changed.

“We show up at every race with the intent to win,” Cannister admitted. “Everybody does. If you don't, there's no reason to show up. You can't ever expect to reach every final, especially in the extremely competitive Alcohol Funny Car class. We are very fortunate this year. My whole team is doing such an awesome job giving me the best car I can have every pass.

“We just keep trying to be consistent, race the race track, and I try to drive the car as consistently as I can every time. So far, we have been successful. But it does come from the product of hard work, dedication, and determination.”

Cannister simply refuses to let up and cruise to what appears to be a solid championship run.
“There is no "conservative mode" for us,” Cannister said. “Championships are won one round at a time, and we will continue to approach every race that same way to the end. With that said, we also realize that you can't win them all, but there is no giving up trying. This season is only half over, and in AFC, that's an eternity and certainly not the time to sit back and reflect, it's time to pour it on even more.”
