WSID CONFIRMS MAJOR ANDRA CHAMPIONSHIP DATES

Western Sydney Dragway, a multi-million dollar Government funded, state
of the art Drag Racing facility - is delighted to confirm the major
ANDRA Championship event dates for next season, located in Australia's
biggest city.
The Eastern Creek located venue has confirmed FOUR major dates on the calendar for next season, building on the strength of the awesome events staged this current season, featuring the epitome of the Sport of Drag Racing in this country.
The important aspect of the dates is the confirmation that THREE of these events will showcase all six ANDRA professional Drag Racing categories, as well as a full compliment from the Sportsman Drag Racing classes as well.
"From a track operational view, we probably didn't need to add further Group 1 categories to the Snap-on Nitro Champs next year," remarked WSID MD Tony Beuk. "However, we see the need to category develop the sport and part of that is committing to a consistent brand quality of ANDRA Championship Drag Racing to the general public, not a confusing and convoluted mix of novelty events. We need to support the professional racers in our sport by supplying a consistent, quality product so the general public have a clear expectation on what show they will receive and experience when they hear about ANDRA Championship Drag Racing."
ANDRA Top Doorslammer has been an astonishing spectacle in Sydney over the past few seasons and fans everywhere will surely be delighted that the world's quickest and fastest sedan-based vehicles have now secured a third round of the Championship at a track that has consistently produced the stunning ET's and the best racing action in the country from this category.
ANDRA Pro Stock has also seen a growth surge with boom events in Sydney and the inclusion of this category with Top Doorslammer and Pro Stock Motorcycle at the 2009 Nitros is exciting news for everyone!
Interest is already high with the next major event on the WSID Calendar for next season - the 2008 Australian Nationals in December, with record entries and racing performances expected.
Feedback has also been very pleasing with the return to the traditional Boxing Day date for the USA Top Fuel Spectacular as well.
The other notable adjustment is the move to THREE day events for the Nationals, Summernationals and Nitro Champs - with two-days of qualifying (each with two qualifying sessions) and a final race day which will feature afternoon racing for the ANDRA professional Drag Racing categories.
"With the level of competitor interest in our events now, we simply cannot cram the racing product into two days of racing, so by this adjustment we give ourselves some more breathing room and add an extra qualifying session for the fans."
