BURGESS HEADS TO ST. LOUIS WITH PLENTY OF MOMENTUM

Roger_Burgess.jpgRoger Burgess heads into this weekend’s NHRA Midwest Nationals in St. Louis, Mo., with a valid question engrossing his thought process. The successful businessman from Duluth, Ga., drives a supercharged 1963 Corvette on the Jegs ProMod series and in his first full season is doing quite a job of it.

His mind continually asks, “How can you top the last outing?”

The soft-spoken Burgess has a clear set of objectives aimed at answering those questions.

"One of our main objectives is to be competitive each and every time we go to the line,” Burgess said. “So far this year, we have been able to do that but in this class, even if you run your best, you can still lose because all of cars are fast and all of the drivers are very good and have a lot of experience."

Burgess is driving a highly consistent race car which has recorded an impressive eight of twelve possible round wins thus far in 2008. He drove the classic Chevrolet to the final round last weekend during the NHRA Southern Nationals in Commerce, Ga. Burgess also scored personal bests in two of his seven runs.

The car has proven a successful entity even in Burgess’s absence. Current point leader Joe Baker filled in for Burgess two races ago when he was away tending to business demands and drove the car to the winner’s circle.

"I am improving as a driver with each lap and that is encouraging. Chuck and Howard are very patient and are good coaches,” Burgess added. “Mac, Brian and Joe are doing a great job preparing the car."

"I am having a blast driving the car and look forward to my first trip to Madison."
