Responding to concerns
over photos posted on the internet, The NHRA today posted a news piece on their

allow the new surface to fully cure.
The entire track surface –
concrete and asphalt -- was replaced over the winter, in preparation for the
NHRA Southern Nationals later this month.
According to the NHRA,
when the new surfaces are poured in cold weather, a gap is left to allow for
expansion during warmer months. The published photo was reportedly taken before
traditional expansion filler material was added.
In addition, smoothing of
a small bump and the replacement of a patch measuring roughly 15 feet wide by
100 feet long next to the guard wall, led to the need to postpone the Ford Fun
Weekend.
Failure to meet the minimum specification for thickness was the reason for the patch.
