FOLEY'S IMPRESSIVE RUN CONTINUES

Considering they're looking for a full-time sponsor, Doug Foley and his FX
Caprara Kia crew are doing a great job of showing their value, storming past
numerous Top Fuel heavyweights Friday night to earn the No. 5 position on the
provisional qualifying sheet of the 21st annual O'Reilly Spring NHRA Nationals.
In just his fifth run down a racetrack this season, Foley dipped into the 4.5-second range with an impressive 4.582-second pass at 303.09 mph at Houston Raceway Park. The run virtually assures the drag racing instructor from southwest New Jersey a position in Sunday's elimination field.
"Now that's exciting," said Foley, who will be forced back to the sidelines after this event due to funding concerns. "That was a crucial run for us because we're in Texas and our experience in this state is that you never know what the weather will do. It always feels good to make a big run Friday night to put your car solidly in the field, and that's especially true here in the Lone Star State." As pleased as he was with the run, Foley knew it could have been better as he lost his blower belt at 1,100 feet, which rendered his car powerless before the finish line. Team co-owner Tim Lewis surmised that the early shutoff could have cost them the pole.
"It would have been a 4.54 or maybe even a little better so we would have been right there," Lewis said. "The incremental numbers were phenomenal. I'd have to check our archives but that's probably the second-best half-track pass we've ever made, so it was on a big run. We're very pleased."
Foley had an idea what happened during the run.
"I felt it pull down a little too hard about mid-track," he said. "We were probably a touch too aggressive there. That caused us to drop a few cylinders and it just pitched the belt after that. Still, we had enough in it to run a 4.5 so we can't complain. You know drag racers; we always want more.
"This is our second race with FX Caprara and their family of car dealerships so it's great to do well for them. We also had JEGS jump in and put two in-car cameras on our hot rod, so we owe them a big thanks. And our friends from Tigerflow Systems of Dallas and PMS Excavating from here in Houston are helping this thing work for us by helping our bottom line. It's a total team effort and we appreciate everyone."
