FAMILIAR NAME, NEW FACE

Randy Beck, the son of former two time NHRA Top Fuel World Champion Gary Beck, has been signed to drive John Rodeck’s Nostalgia Top Fuel car. Randy will pilot the Paso Posse car as it contests the new 2008 NHRA Heritage Series.

The Tacoma, Washington resident has served as a crew member in the past on Rodeck’s car, but will now assume the driving chores with the departure of former driver Jack Harris who leaves to field his own Nostalgia Funny Car. Beck’s long standing desire to follow his father’s footsteps became a reality after completing his driver’s training under the tutelage of funny car driver Jack Beckman. Testing in the car will commence immediately, with a competition debut scheduled for the 50th Annual March Meet at Auto Club Raceway in Bakersfield, California on March 7-9. Gary Beck, a Southern California resident and the 1972 and 1983 NHRA Top Fuel Champion was named 24th on the National Hot Rod Association’s list of the 50 most influential drag racers. His reputation for setting elapsed time records, national event championships, and titanic battles against competitors such as Don Garlits, are part of drag racing lore. The elder Beck, who has been retired from the driver’s seat for over a decade, is also a crewmember on the Paso Posse car.

John Rodeck, who is best known for creating the forged aluminum engine blocks used in present day fuel cars, fields the front engine dragster out of his shop in Paso Robles, California. The 225” wheelbase Uyehara chassis car is powered by an early Chrysler-style replica engine. Best times for the car to date are 5.85 at 251.50 MPH.
