NHRA'S ANNOUNCES SPORTSMAN ADVISORY COUNCIL

In an effort to maintain a high level of communication between race officials and  participants, the National Hot Rod Association has announced the formation of a Sportsman Racer Advisory Council. The purpose of the NHRA Sportsman Racer Advisory Council is to provide a means for discussing and evaluating rules and regulations pertaining to Sportsman racing at NHRA events.

The advisory council will consist of four subcommittees representing groups of categories within the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series program. The categories are:Top Alcohol (Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car); Comp/Top Comp (Competition Eliminator, Top Comp, Top Sportsman and Top Dragster); Super Stock/Stock (Super Stock and Stock eliminators); and the Super classes (Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street). One representative per category group will be appointed from within each NHRA Division. Committee members will be chosen by NHRA Division Directors. Qualified candidates must be active NHRA Sportsman drivers, team owners or crew chiefs.

“The creation of the Sportsman Racer Advisory council will  provide a platform for  racers to have additional input into the rules that govern their participation at NHRA events,” said Graham Light, NHRA Senior Vice President-Racing Operations. “The goal of the Advisory Council is to be a proactive body, advising NHRA on current matters related to Sportsman racing and to provide a forum for NHRA to discuss future rules and regulations. The additional  input provided by the Sportsman Race Advisory Council will allow for improved lines of communication between NHRA and its participants.”

The duties of advisory council members include serving as a liaison between NHRA and Sportsman racers; providing input for consideration in the development of competition policies and procedures; providing input for consideration in the development of technical rules; providing commentary on rules, regulations, and policies proposed by NHRA ; and the communication and distribution of information to Sportsman racers.

The initial advisory council meeting will take place Friday March 14, Friday of the ACDelco Gatornationals. Subsequent meetings will be conducted quarterly at an event or via teleconference. Subcommittee meetings will be conducted on a more regular basis to discuss topics pertaining to their specific category.

Advisory council members are currently being selected from a pool of eligible candidates from within each NHRA division and will be named shortly.
