“We are going to shoot for Top Fuel for (Aaron),” said Greg Stanfield, Aaron’s father and a veteran Pro Stock driver. “If somebody needs a driver, he would be a good driver. He showed everybody he could do it and he’s young and marketable.”

A year ago, the younger Stanfield turned some heads in his Pro Stock debut. He competed in four races at Indianapolis, Dallas, St. Louis and Las Vegas, qualifying for all four events.

Aaron Stanfield’s biggest highlight came when he defied the odds at Indy. He qualified No. 8 and then upset five-time world champion Jeg Coughlin in the first round when Coughlin recorded a red light.

Stanfield’s memorable first race ended when he lost in the second round to two-time world champ Jason Line.

Although Aaron made his NHRA professional debut in Pro Stock, he does have experience behind the wheel of a dragster.

“He has a Top Dragster that he drives when he’s home,” said Greg, whose family lives in Shreveport, La. “I think the exposure for him sponsorship-wise, Top Fuel is where he (Aaron) needs to go to get maximum exposure. Nothing against Pro Stock, he and I both have a passion for it, but I would like to see him race in Top Fuel. We are trying (to get a Top Fuel deal). We just haven’t struck gold yet.”

Greg Stanfield has competed in the Pro Stock class since 2002, winning three national events and finishing a career-best second in the point standings in 2010. Last year, Greg ran four races – both Pomona, Calif., races, Phoenix and Houston.

“The (Pro Stock) car Aaron and I drove last year is parked with no intentions on running it, unless we got a major sponsorship deal,” Greg said.

While Greg pursues Top Fuel sponsorships, he said Aaron will compete in the Sportsman ranks, in Top Dragster, Super Stock and bracket racing.

“Aaron is happy pretty much racing anything, it’s more of what I can afford,” Greg said.
