D’APRILE AND STOTT TEAM UP AGAIN WITH MEL BUSH

Tommy D’Aprile and Quain Stott are on the same team again.

Both parties confirmed that one day after the completion of the ADRL Hardee’s Georgia Drags, Pro Extreme team owner Mel Bush hired Stott to serve as the tuner for his 1970 Camaro.

Bush, who had initially planned to sit out the season, admits a weekend in Valdosta convinced him to bring the team back out with Stott making the tuning calls. Stott will continue to race his LeeBoy-sponsored 1963 Corvette.

Initial plans are to get in a couple of test sessions before making their re-emergence at the next ADRL event, hosted by Virginia Motorsports Park, May 21 – 22.

“I can now say that I’m tuning the two best Pro Mod drivers out there,” said Stott, who also tunes Tim Tindle on the NHRA GSA Pro Mod Challenge series.

“I’m not included in those best drivers,” Stott humbly continued. “Mel had decided to quit racing and we reached a deal this weekend. We’re not expecting to come out and win right out of the box. Their car and combination is new to me and will take some adjusting to. But I will say we are going to be competitive within a few events. I don’t have a magic wand.”

D’Aprile believes championship teams begin with a championship tuner, and the driver from Port Charlotte, Fla., believes Stott’s appointment immediately makes the team a contender.

“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to race with my buddy again,” said D’Aprile. “I feel like when Quain and I were joined together that people saw what we could do together. It will take us a little while to get going but anyone who knows Quain knows that he’s meticulous in his preparation and knows how to make a little go a long way. We are certainly not hurting for anything here at Mel Bush Motorsports, so I am excited to see what this can bring.”

D’Aprile formerly drove a second Pro Modified car in 2006 for Stott with backing from Evan Knoll. The car was parked in 2007 when the sponsorship was discontinued.
