ANOTHER LAGANA IN THE MIX

Bobby Lagana Sr. and Bobby Lagana Jr. are as proud as a father and son can be. The source of their pride is Dominick Lagana.

This weekend in Bristol, Dominick will continue the family tradition of racing nitro at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, Tenn.

Dominick, known by friends and family as Dom, has worked towards this goal since he was barely old enough to hold a wrench. Last year the youngest of the Lagana men earned an NHRA Top Fuel license with a quarter-mile 4.74 elapsed time at 285 miles per hour.

Dom has been a driving force behind his brother Bobby Jr. at two events this season. Together they have recorded a semi-final and quarter-final finish. Bobby Lagana Sr. and Bobby Lagana Jr. are as proud as a father and son can be. The source of their pride is Dominick Lagana.

“I am extremely proud of Dominick, and our entire team, what we have been able to do with a minimal budget has been extremely gratifying. Now to have my youngest son compete at a track where I raced for many, many years is just unreal,” Bobby Sr., a longtime east coast Funny Car driver said. “I have to thank all our friends and supporters for making this happen, we are truly blessed to have so many good friends.”

Seeing his younger sibling piloting a 300 mph dragster evokes mixed emotions for Bobby Jr. A portion of him is excited for his brother; another is nervous.

“Dom has waited a very long time for this day, so I am going to try and keep our emotions in check until the weekend is over,” Bobby Jr. explained. “My nervousness is not for Dom or for anything other than I want to make sure we give Dom the best opportunity to enjoy this weekend, I made my professional driving debut here at Bristol in 1997, so this is really cool that Dom will experience the same thing 12 years later.”

For the weekend, Dominick Lagana will be flying the insignia of POW/MIA, the organization which recognizes those who have been a prisoner of war and those who are missing in action.

“Showing respect to those who have kept our country safe is something I am very passionate about, life is very delicate and any time there is a chance we can help the moral of anyone, we will always give it our best shot,” Dominick said. “I am very blessed to have been raised by two very loving parents. I hope I can make them proud this weekend. Thank you to everyone who has made this dream weekend come true for me.”
