Why not let them race to achive the highest place they can, than pick a time during the season ... like the US Nationals. Then draw from a hat how many cars will be in the count down. 8,10,or 12. if the drivers complain who can they blame? - Rick Johnson


As far as I can remember nobody has come from further back than 4th to win the championship in the last 6-7 races of the year. The countdown is BS on every level and doesn't change the excitement. You can't compete with football. If you want a good points battle think back to 1990 in Top Fuel. Amato-Ormsby final run of the year. That's the way you become a champion. - Jerry Freeman


I think they should do away with the Countdown, after all who really thinks this make it more exciting.It doesn't work in NASCAR or PGA golf either. They should go back to the way it always was ,why do they always have to be messing with things, just stick with what got you here. - Dennis Lowder

Article is spot on. NHRA has made a huge mess of championship drag racing from one end to the other. As a 40-plus year fan, I am disappointed with the direction, focus, safety, and lack of proper track attention NHRA has apparently chosen. I have voiced my opinion to them in writing (only to have gone without response) and I believe my opinion reflects many who once filled the stands.- Steve Arnett

Why does it need fixed? It's the same as any other sports play off? Ever see a "stick and/or ball" sports team perform all year and lose early in the playoffs? Sure you have. This is no different, performing all year is what got you the CHANCE to play for the crown. What is REALLY a shame isn't WHO lost at Dallas, it's WHY. A one lane race track during the countdown? NHRA and the Motorplex should be ashamed. LANE CHOICE should not determine who wins. The track and NHRA should have a clue by now about how to maintain a race track! - Doug Mayle
