RANDY KRAUSE WINS FINAL $30K RACE AT SUMMER FLING

RANDY KRAUSE WINS FINAL $30K RACE AT SUMMER FLING

The JEGS Performance Summer Fling presented by Optima Batteries concluded at National Trail Raceway with clear skies and a significant $30,000 prize from American Race Cars.

The morning commenced with the Summer Fling Reaction Time Challenge, where 25 racers were randomly chosen to compete for cash prizes. Five drivers were awarded $100 each for achieving 'double-O' reaction times.

Approximately 400 participants ensured an action-packed day, yet the cooperation among racers allowed for swift rounds. As the sun began to set, nine racers remained in contention: Kenny Underwood with two entries, Pro bonus winner Matt Obertanec, Randy Krause, Mike Rogers, Dennis Meade, Jim Glenn, Nick Folk, and Tim Wurtz.

During the quarterfinals, Glenn, with a reaction time of .018 and a precise run of one, outperformed Wurtz, who went .015 red. Meanwhile, Obertanec held an eight thousandths0085 of a second advantage over Underwood, securing his advancement by .009 with a dead-on run of two. Krause, on the other hand, enjoyed a solo pass down the track due to a bye.

Since all three remaining drivers had enjoyed a bye previously, Krause secured the semifinal bye with the best reaction time. Glenn, with an impressive .016 reaction time and three over Obertanec, and Krause, with a .015 total on his bye, advanced to the final.

In a showdown between the west and east coasts, Krause, driving his '19 S&W dragster, achieved a reaction time of .013 and ran dead-on two to secure his first-ever Fling event victory, earning him the final $30,000 prize of the week. Glenn, unfortunately, went .006 red but ran dead-on five in his runner-up effort.

The 2023 Fling Race Series will conclude with the RAD Torque Systems Fall Fling presented by Optima Batteries at Bristol Dragway in Tennessee from September 26-30. This pre-entry-only event sold out within three minutes and capped at 425 single entries.

Additionally, the Fling Team announced the first half of their 2024 season schedule. They will visit Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the Spring Fling Million from April 2-6, followed by a stop at GALOT Motorsports Park for the Spring Fling from April 23-27.

JEGS Performance Summer Fling, presented by Optima Batteries, continued with its second day of racing at National Trail Raceway. A total of 328 racers took part in the Advanced Product Design $15,000 Wednesday event.

To kick off the day, every racer on the property had a chance to get a time shot in the morning, allowing them to fine-tune their performance for the rest of the week. The elimination rounds proceeded smoothly, and as darkness fell, the field narrowed down. Finally, nine racers emerged as the top contenders: Gage Burch with two entries, Ben Haight, Jon Siegel, Camron Kardules, Makenna Brown, Jeremy York, Will Holloman, and Joe Barush.

Moving into the quarterfinals, Burch and York displayed identical skills at the tree. However, Burch's dead-on one launch secured his spot in the semifinals with one of his entries. Meanwhile, Siegel held a .010 advantage at the starting line and ran dead-on with a nine, eliminating Holloman. Burch faced a minor setback as he made a small mistake on his bye run for his second entry, recording a .001 reaction time.

Despite the odds, Burch's luck didn't pit him against himself in the final. Siegel received a bye in the semifinals, setting up the ultimate showdown for the $15,000 prize. Burch, for the second time that night, executed a perfect start, sealing his victory on APD Thursday and culminating in an outstanding performance at the event.

Looking ahead, the action will continue with the ATI Performance Products $30,000 Friday as part of the Fling Triple $30Ks series. The morning will commence with New Entry Time Runs, followed by eliminations starting with the K&N Pro 48. This round offers a $2,000 bottom-bulb bonus. At 7 p.m., the Laris Motorsports Insurance Racer Appreciation Party will begin, treating racers and their families to a complimentary steak dinner and live music.

For enthusiasts unable to attend, all the excitement will be streamed live on the MotorManiaTV YouTube channel. The stream is made possible by Strange Engineering, and viewers can enjoy exclusive content produced by the Fling Team at no cost.

WEDNESDAY - RICHARDSON POCKETS $100,000 AFTER FIRST DAY OF SUMMER FLING

In a thrilling event at the National Trail Raceway, the JEGS Performance Summer Fling presented by Optima Batteries showcased the skills of the country's top 48 drivers. The highly anticipated $100,000 All-Star Shootout presented by Fuel Factory finally took place after almost a year of preparation.

To determine the 24 drivers who qualified for the All-Stars, the Fling Team nominated 12 racers, while another set of 12 were selected by public poll. Each driver then chose a teammate from the opposite vehicle category, resulting in a field of 24 door cars and 24 dragsters.

During the second time run, the All-Stars qualified based on their reaction time. The top 12 door cars and the top 12 dragsters engaged in a callout streamed live, with some racers eagerly seeking out specific opponents, while others preferred to avoid certain drivers.

As the rounds progressed, Mark Kidd, Scotty Richardson, Larry Piper, Scott Taylor, Gage Burch, and Kevin Pollard emerged as the remaining contenders on the door car side. On the dragster side, Johnny Ezell, Nick Folk, Tommy Cable, Ray Miller III, Donovan Williams, and Cory Gulitti secured their places.

A new ladder was formed with six competitors: Richardson, Burch, Williams, Taylor, Miller, and Ezell. Richardson held a four-thousandths advantage and maintained it until the finish line, running dead-on 6 to outpace Burch. Meanwhile, Taylor capitalized on a .020 starting line advantage with a .004 bulb over Williams, granting him a bye to the final. Ezell narrowly defeated Miller with a dead-on two performance.

In the semifinals, Ezell initially had a .012 advantage on the tree but ultimately broke out by six thousandths, allowing Richardson, who recorded a dead-on three run, to clinch the victory. Taylor aimed for lane choice in the final and made a full pass during his bye, but unfortunately turned it .002 red.

Richardson emerged as the champion, claiming the $100,000 All-Star prize with his RBZ Billet ‘69 Camaro. Additionally, he secured the $7,500 Fuel Factory Team Bonus alongside his brother Edmond. This victory marks Richardson's second triumph at the Fling, adding to his previous win at the 2020 Spring Fling Million Bristol.

The racing action continues on Thursday with a time run for all racers vying to become the $15,000 Champion on Advanced Product Design Thursday. The entire event is being streamed live on the MotorManiaTV YouTube channel, courtesy of Strange Engineering. Viewers can enjoy the thrilling races and exclusive content produced by the Fling Team at no cost.

EVENT PREVIEW - SUMMER FLING ABOUT TO GET UNDERWAY

The second half of the Fling Race Series tour begins this week at the JEGS Performance Summer Fling presented by Optima Batteries at National Trail Raceway. The event could prove to be the largest Summer Fling yet with the inclusion of the highly-anticipated $100K Fling All-Star Shootout presented by Fuel Factory.

The Fling Team is bringing three $30K races for $690 with $200 round money Friday through Sunday, over $55,000 in racer appreciation giveaways, and a free Laris Motorsports Insurance steak dinner with live music Friday night. New to the Summer Fling will be the K&N Pro 48 category where bottom-bulb drivers will race until one remains to win the $2,000 bonus, custom trophy, and combine into the main event field.

The event fires up with the Law Chevrolet Test and Tune run in conjunction with the All-Star Shootout on Wednesday afternoon.
