SEVERANCE, LOMBARDO WIN NHRA DIV. 5 LODRS AT BANDIMERE

 

Joey Severance and John Lombardo Jr. took home wins from the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Thunder on the Mountain presented by CARSTAR at Bandimere Speedway alongside Tim Nicholson who powered his 4-speed ’67 Camaro to the winner’s circle in Super Gas.
 
In Top Alcohol Dragster, it was a great side by side race with No. 1 qualifier Severance taking out the No. 2 qualifier Shawn Cowie on a holeshot.  Cowie, Surrey, B.C., ran the quicker 5.395 second pass but Severance, Woodburn, Ore., left first and posted a solid 5.418 second lap at 266.48 mph for the win.

BIONDO AND ARAGONA LEAD SPORTSMAN WINNER’S CIRCLE IN ENGLISHTOWN

 

Peter Biondo and Frank Aragona powered their way through competition to victory Sunday at the 48th annual NHRA Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.
 
Aragona, Freedhold, N.J., secured his first win at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, as Pete Hanratty, Speonk, N.Y., fouled at the starting line. Aragona registered his winning pass of 8.282 seconds, 112.93 mph in Comp Eliminator.

NMRA DRIVERS BATTLE IT OUT IN THE BUCKEYE STATE

As the fourth of six events on this year’s NMRA tour, the 14th Annual NMRA Ford SuperNationals presented by WyoTech, June 8-11, at the recently renovated National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio, packed a lot of punch as drivers delivered solid performances to work their way up in points.

With his eye on the Aerospace Components Winner’s Circle, Dwayne Barbaree led qualifying in VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw with a 4.39 at 170 mph in the 1995 SVT Cobra formerly-owned by Daniel Pharris and John Kolivas before being recently purchased by his teammate Russell Stone. He made it to the final where he met madman Manny Buginga, who currently holds the category’s elapsed-time and top speed records, and in the tango between the two turbo cars, Buginga uncorked a 4.49 at 165 mph to win over Barbaree, who ran 4.52 at 163 mph.  

BARTON HEADLINES FIRST DAY NHRA SUMMERS QUALIFYING

David Barton's Mustang is the top runner of the first day qualifying at the NHRA Summernationals in Englishtown, NJ. 

Barton, racing in FSS/D trim, drove his Robesonia, Pa.-based Mustang to a -1.07 under, 8.830 performance. Don Belles Jr. was second in the Mustang dominance with his F/GTB entry and an 8.212, -.988 run. William Kennedy was third with a GT/MA 10.213. -0.987.

LOCAL RACERS SCORE BIG AT MISSION RACEWAY NHRA DIV. 6 LODRS

 

Canadian racing was on full display as local racers; Shawn Cowie, Dan Provost, and Ed Hutchinson celebrated with their teams in the winner’s circle following their final round wins at the Northwest Division, LORDCO NHRA BC Nationals Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Mission Raceway.
           
Cowie, Surrey, B.C., took a minor starting line advantage over Kim Parker, Graham, Wash., in the Top Alcohol Dragster final round, and never let up for the win. Cowie, registered a victory pass of 5.196 seconds, 279.06 mph to Parker’s runner-up 5.229 seconds, 277.00 mph.

WORNER, LABBOUS HEADLINE NHRA NEW ENGLAND NATIONALS SPORTSMAN WINNERS

Twin brothers Byron and Bryan Worner faced off for the Super Stock title at the NHRA New England Nationals and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series with Byron taking the win, the trophy, and bragging rights at the dinner table.  John Labbous also won in Super Gas to continue his racing dominance this year.
 
Byron, Duncannon, Pa., got the jump off the line by about two-hundredths of a second, then ran 9.736 seconds for the win in his ’94 Camaro forcing Bryan to run too quick at 10.184 on the 10.22 dial.  The win was Byron’s fifth to tie him with Bryan at the national event level.

THACKER, BIPSON, AND DAHLEM WIN BIG IN NHRA JOLIET LODRS

LUCAS WINNERS CROWNED FOR NHRA DIV. 5 LODRS THUNDER ON THE PLAINS

 
In the final results from SRCA Dragstrip and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Keith Hall took home the Comp Eliminator trophy followed by a swarm of Kansas racers who celebrated in the winner’s circle for the Thunder on the Plains.
 
Hall, Ravenna, Texas, took a starting line advantage and held on to beat William Hatcher, Satanta, Kan., by about 22 inches.  Hall wheeled his ’05 Cavalier to an 8.576 second, 162.55 mph lap over the quicker Hatcher at 6.640, 205.29.
