The NHRA North Central Division Moser Sportsman Shootout is set to take place on Saturday, August 26, in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Beech Bend Raceway Park, Bowling Green, Ky.  Jacob Elrod is looking to defend his title from a year ago having qualified in two classes.
 
Elrod out of Harrod, Ohio, captured the 2016 Moser Sportsman Shootout with a win over Mark McDonald who is also qualified again this year in the Top Sportsman class.  Elrod returns this year in both the Super Gas and Super Comp classes.  Elrod will face off with Devin Isenhower in his round one Super Gas match up and Joe Fuesting in round one Super Comp.

The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series was in full effect as Justin Ashley, Johan Lindberg, Ben Line, Brian Heath, and Brian Fischer reeled in victories Sunday evening during the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway.
 
In their first matchup in eliminations Ashley, Plainview, N.Y., squared off against Gord Gingles of Winnipeg, M.B. in the Top Alcohol Dragster finale. Gingles emerged from the gate first, but his dragster succumbed to mechanical issues; Ashley swung around the Canadian driver for his second career national event Wally trophy. Ashley clocked in at 5.237 seconds, 268.60 mph to Gingles 12.344 seconds, 54.22 mph.

 
Shawn Cowie, Shane Westerfield, and Jeff Lane led the winner’s circle this past weekend during the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Northwest Division event at Pacific Raceways presented by Les Schwab Tires.
 
Chris Demke, Tujunga, Calif., gained a good starting line advantage but was unable to hold on as the hard charging Cowie, Surrey, B.C., cruised passed the Californian driver in the final round of Top Alcohol Dragster for the divisional event win. Cowie registered a victory pass of 5.247 seconds, 276.01 mph, Demke 5.448 seconds, 271.19 mph.

 
Dan Page and DJ Cox took home the wins along with bothers Brian and Mike Sawyer at this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Cecil County Dragway.
 
Page, Hampstead, N.H., faced off with Josh Hart, Ocala, Fla., in the final of Top Alcohol Dragster for the third time this year.  Page turned the tables this time taking the win and his first of the season with a 5.538 second, 262.79 mph pass to Hart’s 6.429, 154.79.  Hart won the previous meetings in Epping, N.H., and Atco, N.J.

 
In the final results from Brainerd International Raceway and the Thunder at the Lakes Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series it was Kendra Larson and Jeremiah Vandeventer leading the list of winners that took home the hardware and bragging rights.
 
Larson, of Starbuck, Minn., lined up against Todd Bruce, Horace, N.D., in the final of the Fineline Madcap Top Dragster with Larson taking the early lead and holding off Bruce with a lap of 7.486 seconds at 179.49 mph in his ‘07 dragster.  Bruce was right behind but crossed the line second at 7.665, 169.15.

Chris Foster grabbed not one but two NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series trophies this weekend in Top Alcohol Funny Car at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis as racers completed the postponed Lucas Oil Series event from earlier this year along with the weekend’s originally scheduled event.  Mia Tedesco and Kirk Wolf each grabbed a win in the Top Alcohol Dragster class as Wolf just missed scoring a double of his own.

The hallowed ground of Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis remains a field of dreams for two-time Division 3 champion drag racer Mike Coughlin, who claimed his second win of the year and the fifth Indy victory of his career this weekend in his JEGS.com Top Dragster.
 
"It was finally my turn again," Coughlin said with a smile. "We opened the year in Pomona with a win at the Winternationals but as well as the car has been running since then, we hadn't been able to cash in again until this weekend. It's a big thrill and a bit of a relief, to be honest."
 

Jason Coan, Don O`Neal, and Devin Isenhower all rang in wins in front of the home crowd in Indy Thursday evening. The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series hits the North Central Division this weekend at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis.
 
Coan of Kokomo had an easy path to victory in the Comp Eliminator final round. Michigan driver Ronnie Bohn of Benton Harbor, went red at the starting line. Coan finished his victory pass at 10.045 seconds, 87.73 mph.

Many racing experts would agree that Outlaw 10.5 racing peaked in the mid-2000s once the Outlaw Racing Street Car Association (ORSCA) was created and it organized a 10-race series, but a lack of a rules package that allowed better-funded teams to run roughshod over the rest of the competition drove many racers away, and by the early part of this decade, the class was in dire straits.

One group of Outlaw 10.5 racers, under the tutelage of Jim Halsey and Dave O’Donnell at Cecil County Dragway, decided to reign in the class and set parameters that would equal the playing field. Those efforts eventually resulted in the creation of the Mickey Thompson Outlaw 10.5 National Championship Series by Jerry Morgano, who now serves as director of the series.

 
Josh Hart and Phil Burkart raced to victory at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Atco Raceway in Atco, N.J.   Former NHRA Lucas Oil World Champions Frank Aragona, Joseph Santangelo and Dan Northrop also posted wins this weekend.
 
Hart extended his win streak to three as the Ocala, Fla., racer knocked out Dan Page, Hampstead, N.H., in the final of Top Alcohol Dragster. Hart qualified No. 1 then ripped off a 5.244 second lap at 272.83 mph to Page who qualified No. 2 but slowed to a 7.530, 112.79 in the final.  Hart won at both Lebanon Valley Dragway and at New England Dragway last month.
