TOP FUEL DRIVER MURT STAYING BUSY

MURT2When the Southern Nationals resume Friday at Atlanta Dragway, Keith Murt will make his 2013 NHRA debut.

Murt is driving a Top Fuel dragster for John LaPorte.

“I do have my own car, but something happened with him and his driver Ike Maier,” Murt said. “He just called me kind of last minute and he said he wanted to take his car to Atlanta and he wanted to know if I would drive it and I said H*** yeah.”

CompetitionPlus.tv's original web reality series, Married With Dragsters, will return this summer for season three.

ADCOCK PURCHASES DALLAS RACEWAY

Mike Adcock has purchased Dallas Raceway located in Crandall, Texas and will keep the track in operation with little disruption.

The track will continue to operate as normal under the direction of Adcock and will host the Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL, an event that was originally scheduled for May at Dallas Raceway, the weekend of July 12-14. The track will also host the Summit Team Finals event as scheduled in September.

THROWDOWN IN T-TOWN SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND

138Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park's Throw Down in T-Town has grown by leaps and bounds in its first handful of years, and this weekend's event is expected to be the best one yet.

"We're really excited about this race," said track co-owner Keith Haney. "We've got a little bit of everything out here for the fans. We'll have a nitro-powered Harley-Davidson making some passes, we've got a PT Cruiser that does wheelstands all the way down the track, and a $50,000 total payout to all the class winners. It's going to be non-stop excitement."

COURTNEY HELPING TO GROW AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY

Force spoke to an audience of over 100 automotive technology students interested in developing careers in the automotive industry who are currently competing for scholarships through this program.

The recent death of a sportsman racer and the cancellation of sportsman racing at a recent NHRA national event have likewise kept many sportsman message boards ablaze with criticism and disdain.

The recurring point these posts make is the disconnect between the NHRA and its sportsman racers gets wider and wider with each subsequent unpopular decision.

BILLY GLIDDEN SUCCEEDING AMIDST THE CHALLENGES

glidden 02On just its own merit, Billy Glidden's 2013 season is already off to a fine start.

But when you add in all he's already had to go through, it simply gets that much more special and further indicates the type of rare talent Glidden continues to be.

Through four races, Glidden has won one NMCA is currently in the semifinal of another that is scheduled to be completed in July, and has also advanced to semifinals in each of the first two X-DRL events.

That's a start that would have Glidden excited no matter the circumstances, but add in those trying times - breaking one engine and practically rebuilding his car to run an engine he had never previously used - and Glidden is about as excited as he possibly could be.

BERNER FINDING GROOVE AT THE RIGHT TIME

berner story photoAt a recent test session at US 131 Motorsports Park Pete Berner finally began to feel like the Summit Racing Equipment Team’s hard work was producing the desired results.

“We put a tremendous amount of time and effort into our program,” told Berner, “and we’ve seen good results with this machine here and there, but the big key missing from our success was consistency. We made some pretty significant changes prior to this test session and the car was killer right out of the box. We were able to repeat our results in the following runs. Overall, this test session produced great results that boosted my confidence in this car and our ability to use consistency to turn the win light on again.

PSCA'S HOUSTON: WE DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM

HOUSTON we dontIn drag racing, heat is the great equalizer. When the weather is cool and overcast, the fastest (i.e. well-funded) racer tends to win. But when the track is slimy, greasy, and slick, that's when the skill of the driver comes into play. No matter the setup, when it's hot and humid, it takes a real shoe to get to the finish line first.

At the recent MagnaFuel PSCA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Pacific Street Car Association veteran Artis Houston, a competitor in the Mickey Thompson Wild Street class, added to what has been an amazing year when he qualified No. 1 and set the class ET and speed records on his way to the victory in the heat of the Nevada desert.
