THE REJUVENATION OF THE NITROUS COMBINATION

pm_finalsThe leading Pro Modified nitrous engine builders agree this weekend’s Shakedown at E’town outlaw drag race will produce some of the quickest and fastest nitrous doorslammer passes in the history of doorslammers. The cool, sea-level conditions at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ, are expected to be conducive to possibly the quickest and fastest lap in nitrous-injected history.

David Reher, engine builder for the Awesome/Al-Anabi Pro Modified team, had two of his clients win titles [ADRL Pro Nitrous, NHRA GSA Pro Modified] in what has been arguably the quickest and fastest season for the nitrous doorslammers. If the track conditions are present at this weekend’s Shakedown, the nitrous cars could reach uncharted territory.

“I think you’ll see 5.80s,” Reher predicted. “I can already see where just a good run can get you a 5.88 or 5.89 in NHRA trim and then you know with some of the things that are in progress I'm thinking you're gonna see another .03 or .04 basically.”

ZAPPIA RUNS 5.83 IN NEW TOP DOORSLAMMER AND WINS

The current Top Doorslammer back-to-back National Champion drove the new car in its first event since licensing, and managed to pick up the trophy, cash and top points for the Top Comp Championship - the most coveted local Group 2 Blown Alcohol Championship in Australia.

"The team was thrilled to win" said John Zappia, "We really like winning and the standard is very high in our team, and we still get very excited with a win and quick times. We got a lot of personal satisfaction in this win, because it proves our reputation beyond one car. Zap's Rat - the Striker Top Doorslammer has been racing for years now, and we hold the National Record in that car, but this new car is different, and our set ups, tune and systems all proved themselves well when applied to the Crusher Monaro".

TITLE CLINCHED, WALKER STILL RACING ALL-OUT

walker_vegas_1009_LRandy Walker’s ninth final round appearance overall in 2009 came during the Pacific Street Car Association’s Mickey Thompson Tires Fall Nationals, and now only the formalities remain in crowning Walker the 2009 Hughes Performance Pro Street Champion depsite the fact that this weekend’s Edelbrock World Finals has yet to be contested.

After struggling with the change in track preparation compound used on The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s surface during qualifying for the Fall Nationals, Randy and the Walker Racing Group slotted their 1974 El Camino into the third position with an off-pace 6.659 at over 218 MPH.

“It was brutally hot out there, but the track was incredibly sticky,” Walker said. “They changed their preparation methods for this race, so all our data up to that point, especially for the daytime runs, was pretty much out the window. We basically had to start over and re-learn a brand new track, and luckily we were still able to fight our way into the top half of the field.”
