WILD HORSE REVEALS AMBITIOUS 2019 OPENING MONTHS

The new year brings new developments to Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park as less than two months remain before the 35th annual NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event on the Gila River Indian Community near Phoenix.

One big development is a new title-rights sponsor for the Feb. 22-24, 2019, NHRA Arizona Nationals that soon will be announced. This marks a great way to start a season that shows the growth and popularity for the second Mello Yello event of 2019 and confidence marketing partners have in the future of the Motorsports Park.

Several projects will be completed before the NHRA Arizona Nationals, highlighted by the addition of a third VIP Club in the Motorsports Park’s two starting line towers.

The Starting Line Club will take over the ground floor of the Brown Tower, which is located closest to the starting line and offers Wild Horse fans the closest seating area to a starting line on the Mello Yello tour.  Admission to the SLC includes patio and indoor seating, meal service each day and two beer/wine drink coupons to complement a cash bar. Event admission tickets including VIP parking pass. A three-day package is $700 or $300 for Sunday only, $250 for Saturday only and $200 for Friday only.

Only access for Friday remains in the existing Club Nitro and Team Wild Horse suites in the White Tower located behind the starting line.

 

 

The most noticeable change to the White Tower behind the starting line is a new four-story stairway to ease access to and from its suites.

January starts with club drag racing events followed by the annual Winter Test from Jan. 30 through Feb. 2 for members of the Professional Racers Owners Organization. All spots must be reserved through PRO for Jan. 30-Feb. 2.

Testing continues Feb. 3-5 for additional professional teams at $750 per day, per car. In addition, NHRA Pro Sportsman/Sportsman racers can test on those days for $600 per car, per day and that includes driver and crew (10). Spots must be reserved through Motorsports Park track operations manager Ron Conner (rconner@racewildhorse.net or 520-796-5601 ext. 2024).

All testing from Jan. 30 through Feb. 5 will be closed to the general public so teams can focus on getting ready for the following weekend’s season-opener at Pomona, Calif., and a return two weeks later to the Motorsports Park for the NHRA Arizona Nationals.

The safety of fans also is a concern with on-going construction on the tower projects and those in other areas of the facility likely taking place during testing.
