Friday morning at the Auto Club NHRA Finals another version of the battle played out during the first round of Stock Eliminator.

With the aid of a seven-second head-start, the "we're not fast but we're slow" EF/S Plymouth Horizon of Bill O'Connor with a 105-inch Plymouth engine between the fenders matched up with the Factory Stock/AA COPO Camaro driven by Ryan Priddy.

Priddy, who will race in the 2019 Factory Stock Showdown with sponsorship from MountainView Tire, caught the Escort by the 1000-foot mark and coasted through the quarter-mile to an 8.873. Unfortunately for Priddy, he made the ill-advised decision to dial in a 9.39 leading to a .517 break out.

O'Connor was a little on the speedy side as well as he stopped the timers with a 16.434, -.026 under his 16.46 dial.

NHRA lead announcer Alan Reinhart, calling the action, added, "Usually dialing the index is a sign of weakness. That's what Ryan Priddy did.The MountainView car was running 150-miles per hour through the lights so he got out of it early. A 9.39 is real head-scratcher.

"The bottom line is Bill O'Connor just sent one of the fastest Stock Eliminator cars home with a car not even fast enough to get a speeding ticket if he was out there on the 10 Freeway."
