TWO SESSIONS IN THE BOOK DAY ONE DESPITE SOGGY MARCH MEET CONDITIONS

The rain fell early in Bakersfield, but the excitement late more than made up for Mother Nature's meddling at the Good Vibrations 60th March Meet hosted by Auto Club Famoso Raceway.

Bobby Cottrell opened the second session of Nostalgia AA/Funny Car qualifying with a 5.650, 259.30 mile per hour shot which held for the entire session as the No. 1 qualifier.

Cottrell driving the Bucky Austin 1969 Camaro leapfrogged Friday's Q-1 leader Jeff Arend, who made his California Hustler debut with a 5.664 elapsed time.

Mark Sanders was third quickest with a 5.678 elapsed time at 237.63.

Kris Krabill, behind the wheel of the Darkside Challenger, anchored the field with a 6.154, 225.79.

Over in Top Fuel, Mendy Fry was the top runner in Top Fuel as she hammered out a 5.736 second elapsed time at only 219.51. Fry is the defending event champion.

Adam Sorokin anchored the provisional eight-car field.

Past March Meet Fuel Altered champion Dan Hix made his mark out of the trailer as he laid down an impressive 6.005 to take the top spot in the sport's most unpredictable race cars.
