TROY COUGHLIN JR. MAKES RUNS BEHIND THE WHEEL OF ELITE PRO STOCKER

Jeggie Coughlin has been busy for the last few days knocking the rust off of his clutch foot while testing with his Elite Performance teammates testing at Bradenton Motorsports Park just outside of Tampa, Fla.

Driving wasn't his only assignment Monday afternoon. Coughlin was getting a jack-of-all-trades driver accustomed to the ropes of driving a factory hot rod.

Troy Coughlin Jr., who is also a licensed Top Fuel driver and most recently standout Top Alcohol Dragster pilot, made his first runs behind the wheel of the Chevrolet Camaro Pro Stocker driven by his uncle.

On his just second run ever, the third-generation dragster cranked out a 6.61 elapsed time at 207 miles per hour. Additionally, he was .023 on the tree.

"There wasn't a whole lot of training needed," Coughlin said. "He's been a student of the sport for as long as he could. This isn't a prelude to his future in the sport by any means. But it could be.

"His dad is his hero period. He spent his childhood years calling the 1-900-CASTROL phone line to get the results when he was a kid. In preparation for today, he's studied the ins and outs. Before he got in this car, he'd made runs in his brain as well as anyone out there. We chatted quite a bit on procedures and studied every aspect of the run."

Coughlin said there's a genuine chance TJ could end up becoming a test driver for him from time to time, but right now, the situation is very fluid.
