STOFFER IN HAWAII PROMOTING NEED FOR RACE TRACK

Veteran NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle pilot Karen Stoffer knows how important a race track can be to a community.

Now, the eight-time NHRA national event winner is relaying that message to the people of Oahu, an island in Hawaii.

Stoffer is helping launch the public service announcement campaign 'Race the Vote' this week.

“Tracy (Arakaki, a local race promoter) we met up with him at the PRI show (in Indianapolis, in December),” Stoffer said in a phone interview Wednesday when she landed. “He came by our shop and he was indicating that he’s in a political position, he’s running for one of the positions out here and he’s been trying to navigate a race track out here, they haven’t had one for 12 years and he said are you interested in what this is about? So, he sent me some literature about it and some of his websites and I said ‘yeah I can go and at least share my experiences. I have a lot of experiences with local race tracks in the divisional ranks and professional ranks on the business side and I told him I would definitely be interested.”

Oahu has been without a legal race track for more than a decade. This is an important election year and supporters are trying to rally together the displaced racing community on the island of Oahu to register to vote and do so at the polls.

“He (Arakaki) is doing a big media PR blitz,” Stoffer said. “They are trying to get as many people to vote as possible. So, I’m out here promoting voting to make sure everybody has their say on if they want a race track or not. I’m here to help them promote the right to vote and to get everybody voting on the polls and trying to get this race track put in.”

With assistance from Kalitta Air, Arakaki’s motorcycle was flown in for appearances all over Oahu along with a full size professional Christmas tree.

Stoffer and Senator Will Espero are scheduled to be at a press conference at 3 p.m. local time May 24 at Ron's Performance on Sand Island Access Road to launch the Race the Vote public service campaign.

Stoffer also will be making several autograph signing appearances during her time in Oahu. Stoffer arrived in Oahu Wednesday and will be depart back home May 28.

“This will be a busy working trip, not a lot of time for R&R,” Stoffer said. “I’m really try to help him (Tracy Arakaki) get the word out – Race to Vote. I’m glad to be a part of this. I think there’s a lot of value, there are a lot of things you can do with a race track. It is a family sport that NHRA has promoted very well and it is something I love and I’m passionate about and I can definitely get behind and I think it is a great idea.”
