PRO STOCK DRIVER RICHIE STEVENS TO RACE FOR BEAVER MOTORSPORTS IN LIMITED 2021 SCHEDULE

Richie Stevens Jr. confirmed to CompetitionPlus.com that he will be competing in a limited Pro Stock schedule in 2021 in NHRA’s Camping World Drag Racing Series.

Stevens will be driving the 2017 Camaro for Beaver Motorsports, owned by Mark Beaver. Stevens’ first race will be the season-opening 52nd annual AMALIE Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville (Fla.) Raceway March 12-14.

Stevens competed in three NHRA events a year ago for Beaver Motorsports in the COVID-19 pandemic-abbreviated season.

“I’m going to do as many races as he (Mark Beaver) wants to do this year and he said probably six to eight races,” Stevens said. “I don’t know what his schedule looks like and with NHRA canceling here and there (because of COVID-19) we will see what happens. He said possibly Houston and Charlotte (N.C.). It just depends on what happens and what doesn’t happen with the schedule with COVID and all that. This kind of came together in the last month and here we go.”

The primary sponsor on the Camaro will be VitaCshot.com. Returning sponsors are Racersdirect.com, Strutmaters.com with Chip Lofton, Over Kill Motorsports and Beaver Bonding. John Cerbone will be the crew chief.

“We still have Frank Iaconio Racing Engines, and we will see what happens,” Stevens said. “I have some more seat time in the car and I’m excited to get back out there. I’m looking forward to it. It should be fun. Hopefully, we have good weather down there (In Gainesville) and everything goes according to plan.”

Stevens first laps in the Camaro in 2021 will be in qualifying March 12 at the Gators.

“We are not going to that Orlando race (at the Drag Illustrated World Doorslammer Nationals, March 6-8) because I had a prior commitment,” Stevens said. “There’s an open test March 9-10 in Gainesville and I think Kenny Delco is going to drive the car then just to get a couple laps in it before the race on Friday (March 12).”

Stevens, a six-time NHRA national event Pro Stock winner, competed in the class in 2019 filling in for team owner Alan Prusiensky the last three races of the season in Dallas, Las Vegas and Pomona, Calif.

Stevens keeps busy outside of drag racing working for his family’s business – Stevens Used Auto Parts in New Orleans.

“That’s why I can’t make it to the (open test, March 9-10), because I have to get some things buttoned up at work before I head to Gainesville,” Stevens said. “This is our busy time of year.”
