PDRA, PRO MOD RACER LIZZY MUSI INKS EDELBROCK AS MAJOR SPONSOR

Ever since Lizzy Musi made her debut in the Professional Drag Racing Association in 2014 in the Pro Nitrous class she has been on a meteoric rise to stardom.

Now, that star that is Musi has a primary sponsor for 2018 as Edelbrock will be backing her in her racing endeavors in the PDRA and NHRA.

“I’m really excited (to have Edelbrock as a major sponsor),” Musi said. “They have been onboard with us for numerous years. They were onboard with us when I first started driving the Top Sportsman car we had for two years, and they have been onboard with my dad (Pat) for numerous years. So, to step up with them and make it a whole bigger deal I’m very thankful. Vic (Edelbrock, the founder of Edelbrock) knew me since I was little. I look at it like a family deal more than anything.”

Vic Edelbrock Jr., who spent five decades at the helm of the Torrance, Calif.-based company started by his father and was considered a visionary in the high-performance auto parts industry, passed away June 9, 2017. He was 80.

“I’m absolutely racing in memory of Vic,” Musi said. “When I first started out racing Top Sportsman, I never signed any posters before in my life, and never did any autograph sessions. I will not forget the first time sitting up there with him (Vic) and doing some autograph sessions. He taught me how to interact with fans and sign autographs. I look up to him. He’s a big idol to me and I can’t thank him enough for putting me in the right direction and sending me on the right path. He kind of molded me to who I am today, including my dad.”

In the PDRA ranks, Musi most recently won the PDRA World Finals in the Pro Nitrous class at Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie on Oct. 22. Musi finished third in the 2017 PDRA Pro Nitrous points standings behind Tommy Franklin and Jay Cox.

The charismatic and fan-favorite Musi acknowledged she also plans on competing in NHRA’s Pro Mod class in the upcoming season.

“We are talking about running two NHRA Pro Mod races this year (Summernationals in Englishtown, N.J., July 7-10 and the Carolina Nationals, Oct. 12-14 in Charlotte), and we are going to see how those two go,” Musi said. “We have the new car being built and that one is going to be staying strictly for the PDRA deal and then we are going to keep the old car and maybe hold that for the NHRA. We will see how the NHRA Pro Mod races go. I talked to Stevie (“Fast” Jackson) (Thursday), and he said it took him a couple of races to get the ball moving (in NHRA’s Pro Mod class), but my dad has knowledge with the class and Rickie (Smith) has the knowledge, so I think we will be pretty competitive in that class. I asked Stevie how does it feel (to race NHRA Pro Mod) because he has been running the eighth-mile with me with the Pro Nitrous deal and he told me it is a difference. When you’re going pass that eight-mile, you feel like it almost going on forever when you’re going through the quarter-mile, so it is going to be a difference (for me). But, I’m looking forward to it. I think we’re going to be pretty competitive in that class.”
