PAUL LEE SET TO MAKE SECOND 2019 NHRA SHOWING

Paul Lee, driver of the McLeod Funny Car, will make his second appearance on the 2019 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series tour this weekend.

Lee, whose privately-owned Funny Car races under the Straightline Strategy Group banner, has one quarterfinal finish to his credit thus far in 2019.

“Route 66 has always been really great to me,” Lee said. “I went to the finals in Alcohol Funny Car, and now we are looking to do it in the Nitro Funny Car. After Atlanta, I can’t wait to get back in the seat. If Atlanta was any kind of insight into what this team and what this car can do, I have no worries that we will be going rounds on Sunday.”

Lee scored his monumental runner-up finish during the 2004 season at Route 66 Raceway, the stadium-style drag racing facility located outside of Chicago. A day later he earned his Funny Car license.

The fact Lee remains behind the wheel of one of the most volatile types of race car on the planet is quite a story in itself.

Lee suffered what is known as a highly fatal widow maker heart attack in December 2016 with a 100 percent blockage of the left anterior descending (LAD) artery. Three stents were inserted in his main artery, and Lee suffered what was thought to be significant damage that would preclude him from driving in the Nitro Funny Car division. However, through aggressive rehabilitation and vital physical training, Lee was cleared by doctors to return to the driver’s seat.

Lee is making the most of his second chance and has been greatly aided in his return through the marketing efforts of the Straightline Strategy Group.

“Working with the SSG has been a great way to expand sponsorship partners,” says Lee. “We are able to appeal to big companies and be able to cater to a sponsorship that works with their marketing and business objectives.”

This weekend, Lee is making the most of his B2B efforts for not only his team but his McCleod clutches brand, a company owned by the successful race team owner.

JEGS Performance will be hosting a Dealer of the Race sale, enabling new and present customers to become McLeod equipped at Jegs.com from May 27 to June 3.

“Racing is fun, but the B2B is a huge part of the success,” Lee explained. “JEGS has been a great partner of McLeod Racing, and it’s great to be able to come together and give our customers a great discount. Being successful both on the track and in the office is what sets this McLeod team apart from the others.”
