AN OPEN LETTER FROM STREET CAR SUPER NATIONALS PROMOTER MEL ROTH

Street Car Super Nationals Promoter Mel Roth has posted an open letter to racers and fans regarding the status of this year's  SCSN 16 at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which is scheduled for November 19-22. Due to the maximum effort currently being exercised by the state of Nevada to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic, Roth wanted to let everyone know that while the event will indeed take place, it will be with a different look and with a set of rules expressly designed to best ensure the health and safety of all involved.
 
First, let me say I’m pleased to report that the Street Car Super Nationals will take place at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway next weekend.

I would like to give special thanks to both Craig Cochran and David Stetzer at LVMS for jumping through a lot of hoops to ensure that the event would be possible.

Nevada has been extremely restrictive and we will have to go through a lot of COVID protocols to make the event happen.  However, we’ve worked through protocols and rules at other venues this year and have had successful events.

As we look toward the event, we know it will have a different look and feel to it.  It won’t be the normal party we throw in Las Vegas each year.  But, we remain positive we will have some great racing with the ability to host limited attendance in the stands.

We have to remain cautious in 2020 while maintaining a positive outlook for the future.

Our event attracts attendees from all across the continent both in the pits as well as in the stands.   We know it is extremely difficult for racers and fans from Canada, Mexico, and even other states to attend because of the travel restrictions.   We hope those of you who can’t make it will enjoy the live stream coverage on FloRacing and come back as soon as possible.

Right now, our pre-entries and advance tickets purchases are OK, but nowhere near our regular numbers.  Many are still taking a wait-and-see attitude and we respect that decision.

This event is the primary livelihood for my family and I. We have to be cautious but optimistic.  I want to be able to go all in but have to take the necessary precautions to ensure we can begin moving upward once the pandemic is behind us. One of the setbacks we’re facing is the longtime voice of the Street Car Super Nationals, Al Tucci, will be unable to make this year’s event. We are going to miss Al and we look forward to hearing him on the mic in 2021.

We’ve made some adjustments to the 2020 payout based on the uncertainty of how many fans will be able to attend.  The updated payout structure will be posted once it’s official. We are currently being overwhelmed with offers from racers and fans to help us financially. We appreciate you! Once we get this one behind us and take a strong look at the economy and consumer confidence, we will begin working on 2021. That being said, we are still actively seeking sponsors and marketing partners for this race in an effort to keep the purses close to what has been previously announced.

Again, our No. 1 priority is providing everyone with a great and safe event, a perfectly-prepped racing surface, and racing that will be talked about for years to come.

If you love the Street Car Super Nationals and are able to attend, we hope you will safely do what you can to be here in person.

For the many of you that simply can’t attend, we want you to know you will be missed, but want to assure you that the steps we’ve taken and the rules we are following will enable us to focus on the future.
