WORLD CHAMPION CREW CHIEF BEARD STARTS TWIST FLYFISHING DESTINATIONS

Lee Beard, a former NHRA world championship crew chief and team manager, has never been someone who backs down to challenge.

Now, Beard is embarking on a new adventure, Twist FlyFishing Destinations. Beard is the founder and will act as the director of operations for this fly fishing adventure company which has bases in Indianapolis and Livingston, Mont.

Twist FlyFishing Destinations is a professional company that aligns clients with premier locations, accommodations, and guides throughout the world. Specializing in fly fishing adventures, Twist can organize and plan the perfect trip for individuals, couples or corporate groups.

“What makes Twist FlyFishing Destinations so unique is that we do all the research and evaluations for our clients,” Beard said in a press release. “We pride ourselves on knowing our clients desires and skill level of fishing. Once we know what a specific client is looking for we can place them with the ideal accommodations and fishing guides. Be it in the Bahamas or on the Yellowstone River, we’ll make sure the consumer has an experience of a lifetime and memories to cherish. Twist will handle the travel, lodging, and guides for the entire experience. We want our clients to show up, fish and have just an amazing trip. We can also arrange other activities for the non-fishing companion.”

Beard amassed 55 NHRA national event wins with 12 different drivers in Top Fuel and Funny Car. Beard tuned the late Gary Ormsby to a Top Fuel title in 1989.

Beard, who grew up in Pueblo, Colo., is a skilled fly fishmerman.  He has fished all over the word from catching steelhead in the rivers of Pennsylvania, to bonefish in the Carribbean and giant trevally in the Gulf of Oman. His fervor for the outdoors inspired him to create an organization that directs clients to locations Beard and his team at Twist have directly studied and endorsed.

In 1992, Beard won a world championship as team manager when Cruz Pedregon captured the nitro Funny Car title. He also was the team manager at Don Schumacher Racing when Tony Schumacher was the Top Fuel champ in 2009.

Beard retired as a crew chief on Oct. 6, 2013, following a short stint guiding Steve Torrence’s Top Fuel team. His last win as a crew chief came with Torrence at Bristol, Tenn., in 2013.

In 2014, Beard and his firm Lee Beard Racing Inc. was used as an outside consulting firm for the NHRA.

“Surrounding myself with the best people and manufacturers’ who developed state of the art components and technology were key too much of the success that we saw in NHRA racing,” Beard said. “The objective with Twist is to develop a team of those who share my passion for the outdoors and first class fly fishing adventures. Booking a trip with Twist will cost our clients the same as if they book direct.  We do all of the research and work.”

Twist is currently booking fly fishing excursions for owners and drivers in all of motor sports. A Twist FlyFishing experience is the perfect getaway trip for the vacationing couple or business team-building project.

“We hope to partner with many of the friends that we’ve developed over the years in racing and deliver a memorable outdoor vacation they won’t forget,” Beard said. “Imagine fly fishing with a champion race car driver while drifting down a river in Montana or Colorado and then relaxing over dinner at an amazing resort. Twist FlyFishing Destinations has the ability to make that happen.”
