LAGANA TO HELP RAI TEAM MAKE HISTORY WITH FOUR DRAGSTERS

Dom Lagana, who recently advanced to the quarterfinals of the NHRA race at Las Vegas in the Rapisarda Autosport International / Titan Cranes Dragster, will drive again next month in Australia for the Sydney-headquartered team. Top Fuel racer Dom Lagana never has been to Australia – been close with a recent trip to New Zealand.

But he's on the verge of not only going to Sydney but helping Rapisarda Autosport International make Top Fuel history at the May 2-3 Nitro Champs on May 2-3 when it becomes the first Australian team to field four cars in the elite class.

And he has news for the field at Sydney Dragway: "It won't be a holiday. I'm coming to win," he told John Doig, of Australian Auto Action Magazine.

Lagana is expected to team with Damien Harris, ANDRA's current Top Fuel points leader, and his junior teammate Wayne Newby, who served on his crew at the recent SummitRacing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Sydney-based RAI might name longtime Australian driver and RAI associate Allan Dobson. Team owner Santo Rapisarda reportedly has heard from several well-credentialed NHRA drivers interested in joining the foursome.

Rapisarda owns the record for fielding the most cars at an ANDRA event. Harris, Dobson, and Newby represented RAI at the Sydney Nationals last November. Rapisarda, a friend of NHRA mega-team owner Don Schumacher, is the Australian version of Schumacher, who has three dragsters competing in the Mello Yello Series (Tony Schumacher, Antron Brown, and Spencer Massey, who have combined for nine NHRA Top Fuel championships and one IHRA title).

The RAI decision will guarantee a capacity field of eight dragsters for the first time this ANDRA season.

"The closest I’ve been to Australia is when we raced in New Zealand earlier this year,” Lagana, 29, said. "I follow the drag-racing scene in Australia, and it's always cool to see how people go about racing in different countries. And I love racing for Santo and the boys here in America. Santo has been so good for the sport in Australia, and I’m proud and honored to be given the opportunity to be racing for the Rapisarda family."
