INTRODUCING THE NEW MOUNTAIN PARK DRAGWAY

For over 50 years, Mountain Park Dragway in Clay City, Kentucky has been in operation, hosting many events such as the Bluegrass Nationals, the Mopar Southern Nationals and the Thanksgiving Toys 4 Tots in addition to their weekly bracket program. For 2017, the plans will stay pretty much the same with one exception.

Former NHRA national champion and many-time race winner Scott Richardson has signed a lease of the track for 2017 and beyond.

“It’s an exciting time,” says Richardson, “and I’m really looking forward to running the track. I’ve been around the sport my whole life as both a racer and businessman with my drag racing school, Schooled by Scotty. I’ve learned just what racers are looking for in an event and I can’t wait to get started on my newest venture.”

With a Test-N-Tune held on Friday nights during the season, along with IHRA bracket racing on Saturdays, it will be a busy season for the eighth-mile facility.

“I intend to keep most of the track’s successful events, so none of that will change,” said Richardson, “but I’m also talking with a lot of other promoters in regards to bringing in new events. I’ve already signed an agreement for our points series runoff whereby the winner of Super Pro will receive a new dragster and in Modified, the same scenario will take place and that winner will receive a new enclosed trailer. We’ll also have a home base for our school in addition to track rental days during the week.”

The eighth-mile track located just east of Lexington, Kentucky, has been the home to some of the most elite bracket racers in the east south central part of the country. Now with Richardson’s guidance, it will surely be taken to the next level.
