HOMETOWN SON ROCKS IT FRIDAY; KORETSKY ESTABLISHES PROVISIONAL NO. 1

Kenny’s boy is making his Dad pretty proud these days. And even better, the hometown folk didn’t have to hear Kenny Koretsky brag about how well his son is doing while on the NHRA Camping World Drag racing Series tour.

Kyle Koretsky showed them all at his hometown track, Maple Grove Raceway, in Reading, Pa., by nailing down the provisional Pro Stock No. 1 qualifying position with 6.547 elapsed time at 209.98 miles per hour.

“It was exciting,” Koretsky said. “First pass at Maple Grove. First professional pass I’ve ever raced here in Pro Stock. So it’s pretty cool.”

Koretsky’s mark was tied one pair later by engine man and teammate Greg Anderson, but the deciding factor was miles per hour. Anderson ran through the speed traps at 209.33 miles per hour.

“Just shows the KB guys have really equal power to everybody out here that rents from them, and they make some serious power,” Koretsky pointed out.

Koretsky, fresh off of his first No. 1 qualifying effort and a runner-up finish at the Dodge NHRA U.S. Nationals, knew his Lucas Oil Camaro was capable of running at the top of the Pro Stock leaderboard.

“I thought we could have gone a .55, somewhere in the 55 range,” Koretsky said. “To go out there and go the .54, I think it has a little more in there. I know I say that all the time. I believe that we do have more power. It felt good going down the track. Everything was just smooth. I just tried to stage very shallow and did my staging procedure very, very slow and steady on that run. It was a good run.”

Running well, and doing well in front of the hometown folk, has the second-generation Pro Stock driver establishing high expectations for the weekend.

“I go into every race looking to win, but I’m going to take every round one by one, and we still have two more qualifying runs tomorrow,” Koretsky said. “The fans, the stands are packed. It’s great to be home. I got a lot of friends and family. So I’m definitely looking to get my first win here at home. It would be a crazy party if we could seal up the deal here on Sunday night.

“I’ve been coming here my whole life. My dad raced here 25 plus years, and I raced Junior Dragsters here, I bracket raced here. A lot of events we’d come here, truck racing, my brother and it’s our hometown. It’s Pennsylvania, and the fans show that they love drag racing. I’m right at home.”

And even better, Kenny doesn’t have to school the hometown folk on how good his son is; they can see it for themselves.
