DIXON THIRD AS NEWBY RUNS 4.48 DURING AUSSIE WINTERS FINAL DAY OF QUALIFYING

Damien Harris remained the top qualifier in the Top Fuel division.

During Friday evening qualifying, Harris recorded the quickest drag racing elapsed time in Australian Drag Racing history with a 4.443-second pass at 335.32 miles per hour.

Harris' teammate Wayne Newby became the second driver into the 4.40s with a 4.481, 322.15 during the Q-3 session.

American drag racer Larry Dixon was third with a 4.525 elapsed time at 335.07. He was preparing to stage for his final attempt when rain forced the cancellation of the session.

John Zappia remained the class of the Top Doorslammer division by lowering the Willowbank Raceway track record with a 5.643 elapsed time at 255.73 miles per hour during Saturday's final session.

Hometown favorite Ben Bray made his best run of the weekend with a 5.759, 254.81 to finish ahead of Scott McClean, who ran a 5.778, 255.48.

Stuart Bishop anchored the eight-car Top Doorslammer field with a 5.908.

Pro Alcohol point leader Gary Phillips heads into Sunday as the leader with a 5.407, 260.91 top spot, just ahead of John Cannuli's 5.407. John Sting fell to third with a 5.535.

To clinch his 18th title, Phillips must outlast Steven Ham and Steven Reed during Sunday's eliminations.

Chris Matheson remained the leader in Top Bike on the strength of his Friday night 6.180, 196.30.

Brad Lemberg improved on his Friday run in Pro Stock Bike qualifying and secured the No. 1 seed headed into Sunday's final eliminations with a 7.121, 186.72.

Pro Stock Tyrone Tremayne stepped up in Saturday's Q-2 session with a 6.980 elapsed time to secure the top spot and backed up the mark with a 6.983 in the final session. Chris Soldatos was the only other driver in the class in the six-second zone with a 6.986.
