BROGDON, J. SALINAS HEADLINE FIRST-TIME WINNERS IN FAN VOTE RACE #2

Pro Stock racer Rodger Brogdon has chosen to let his performance on the track for his entire career. As he saw it, popularity didn't win races. Performance did.

Until now, this was the case.

Brogdon, of Tomball, Texas, scored his first win of the Virtual Reality Hot Rod Association, a series of events decided by fan vote, stopping Alan Prusienski in the finals of the Duel in the desert event hosted by BeeLine Dragway.

With the victory, Brogdon passed Dallas Glenn for the point lead.

"This comes as a big surprise to me; I'm both happy and glad," Brogdon said. "This means the world to me because to me because this is all about the fans. They have complete control over who wins and loses. This is a neat deal because we are all engaged in the offseason."

Joining Brogdon in the virtual reality winner's circle was Jianna Salines(Pro Stock Motorcycle), and second-time winners Krista Baldwin (Top Fuel), Tim Wilkerson (Funny Car), and Lyle Barnett (Pro Modified).

Salinas, competing in her first season on the fan-vote series, scored a monumental win by stopping Angie Smith, Ryan Oehler, and Karen Stoffer in the final round. Entering eliminations as the No. 3 qualifier, she pulled into third place in the championship point standings with her win.

Baldwin, also competing in her first season, energized her fan base from the start and it has showed. Starting from the No. 1 qualifying position, Baldwin stopped Cameron Ferre, Brittany Force and then stretched out a hard-fought victory over past series winner Clay Millican.

Speaking of energized, Lyle Barnett has used the power of social media and a growing fan base to run the equivalent of 300 miles per hour in a doorslammer by virtue of fan totals. Barnett won the battle of social media icons as he stopped Stevie "Fast" Jackson in the final round. He is undefeated in the fan-vote competition this season.

Stop us if you've heard this before. Tim Wilkerson has won another Funny Car event, but this time a charge by Paul Lee took the battle down to the wire. To reach the finals, Wilkerson stopped Jeff Diehl and Dale Creasy Jr., two drivers strong in this arena.

The tour rolls into Lion's Dragway for a Monday morning start with qualifying for the Red Line Oil VRHRA SuperNationals, the third of nine races scheduled this season.
