BILL LITTON TO RACE WORSHAM’S TF DRAGSTER AT DENVER

No matter what happens for Bill Litton the rest of his drag racing career he will never forget this weekend.

Litton has joined forces with Chuck and Del Worsham and will be making his Top Fuel debut in the Worsham Racing family dragster at the Mopar Mile-High Nationals Friday through Sunday at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colo.

“I’m just thankful and blessed for this opportunity,” Litton said. “Del and Chuck and the whole team are amazing and it’s awesome to be with them. I been praying every night since I’ve been 8 years old to get the chance to drive a Top Fuel dragster.”

Litton has one career Top Alcohol Dragster NHRA national event title at Dallas in 2015 in Dallas and he still drives Randy Meyer’s second TAD dragster. This will be Litton’s first time competing at Bandimere Speedway.

“We’re trying to get a full season sponsor for next year, and even some for the end of this year which we have made some progress on,” said Litton, 58.

According to Del, Litton will be driving the Worsham dragster for the entire Western Swing – Denver, Sonoma, Calif. (July 29-31) and Seattle (Aug. 5-7). Litton Financial, Litton’s financial planning company based in La Jolla, Calif., will be sponsoring the dragster for the Western Swing.

“This is very exciting,” Del said. “It’s good time to get your feet wet and kind of get things going. Bill was one of our students in our Top Fuel class and I’m looking forward to seeing Bill go out there. I think it’s a good fit for Bill to compete at Denver because we’re putting the whole thing together anyway and he might as well come out three weeks in a row. Denver has been pretty good to me in the past. I’ve won there (in 2002 in a nitro Funny Car) and I’ve had some good races there. It’s a good place to get everybody started.”

Del said his father Chuck will be tuning the dragster for Litton and nitro Funny Car driver Jeff Arend will be part of the crew. Del, the reigning NHRA nitro Funny Car world champion, will be driving his DHL Kalitta Motorsports Funny Car at Bandimere.

“Jeff’s a great driver and he can work with Bill if he has any questions because I will be busy doing things with Kalitta and DHL,” Del said. “I will not be there to answer every question Bill has if he has any so to bring a guy like Jeff with us with his experience is good for us. We’ve always had our own car and our own team and this is fun. It’s nice to go out there and compete, and my dad can come out and race and he doesn’t have to run a full-time schedule this way. It’s also gives drivers the opportunity to race who may not have the opportunity otherwise.”

Del said he bought the dragster Litton will be driving at the Mile-High Nationals 18 months ago from Morgan Lucas.

The dragster has competed at two career NHRA national events both this season with Steven Chrisman piloting the dragster at Phoenix (Feb. 26-28) and Las Vegas (April 1-3).

Chrisman lost in the first round at Phoenix to Antron Brown and then upset No. 1 qualifier Steve Torrence in the first round at Vegas before losing to J.R. Todd in round two.

“I just want to focus on driving the car as flawlessly as possible,” said Litton, who also has been flying planes since 1984. “God is my best sponsor and I want to give him all the glory for opening these doors for me.”
