BECKMAN SUFFERS ENGINE EXPLOSION WHILE TESTING

Half of a Funny Car body sat alongside the retaining wall at Wild Horse Motorsports Park on Monday afternoon during a test session.

The damaged shell belonged to the Jack Beckman-driven, Infinite Hero Funny Car team. It was the second body a Don Schumacher Racing team had destroyed in as many days. Teammate Tommy Johnson Jr. destroyed a new Hellcat body during Sunday's first round of eliminations.

Beckman was uninjured in the incident.

"I appreciate everyone’s concern. I am perfectly fine due to all the safety equipment working flawlessly (thank you, Impact!)," Beckman wrote on his Facebook page. "I wish the same could be said for our Infinite Hero Dodge Charger."

The incident happened during Beckman's third testing pass.

"The engine let go with an impressive explosion, followed by lots of fire," Beckman said. "The chassis only has fire damage (brand new car), and the body wasn't our new Hellcat version."

Beckman's thoughts immediately moved forward, looking ahead to the upcoming NHRA Gatornationals.

"We will come out swinging at the next race in Gainesville, and don't be surprised if we walk out with the 50th anniversary trophy," Beckman said. "Stay tuned ..."
