ABOUT THE COMPETITIONPLUS.COM FORUMS ...

The CompetitionPlus.com Forums were suspended in mid-November due to security concerns. A plan was put in motion to upgrade the favorite section, and return shortly with an improved experience.

What looks good on paper doesn't always transfer to reality.

In simple terms, CompetitionPlus.com's Drupal platform, and the new v-Bulletin software aren't on the same page when it comes to compatibility.

"The coding between the two sites is in a fight," said Brian Prins, of Brain Matter, CompetitionPlus.com's official internet technician agency. "We've been working with the v-Bulletin engineers (including their Chief Technical Officer), and they are working to help us, but there are issues in this situation which have them scratching their heads. They've never seen an issue like this before."

Right now, Brain Matter and vBulletin have been working on a solution which preserves the past forum content into the updated version and integrates into the Drupal format.

Dropping the old message board content, and moving forward with a brand new forum would be detrimental to the CompetitionPlus.com website ranking, which would take years to rebound from. The best course is to work through the issue, and when the new forum is implemented, it will pick up right where it left off.

"People have come up with all kinds of theories as to why the forum is down, none of which is true," Bobby Bennett, Publisher/Editor of CompetitionPlus.com explained. "I think what we have all learned here is just how vital this community is to our publication.

"Right now, we are throwing all of the resources we can afford to fix the issue, but when it comes to importance, budgeting for our newsgathering capabilities takes priority. We are still dedicating resources to fix this issue and will continue to do so until it is up and running.

"It's important to me to get the forums up and running, and we will, but it's not been as simple of a fix than I originally thought. Please be patient with us as we work through this issue."
