Aaron Stanfield’s opportunity driving a Pro Stock Camaro for Richard Freeman’s Elite Motorsports for the final the final six races of the 2019 season has morphed into much more.

Stanfield confirmed to CompetitionPlus.com Friday that he will be running a full Pro Stock schedule for Elite Motorsports in NHRA’s Mello Yello Series in 2020.

“I’m very excited and I’m just blessed to have the opportunity,” said Stanfield, 24. “I want to thank the Janac Brothers of course and Jc3 Energy is going to hop on along and we are going to go for some more partnerships on our team, but as of right now, we are set with the Janac Brothers, Jc3 Energy and racing with Elite Motorsports for the 2020 season.”

The original six-race deal with Elite Motorsports was made possible through Joe and Janac Brothers Racing, who Stanfield has raced in the Factory Stock Showdown class with.

According to Stanfield, Joe Janac purchased two Camaros and one is the one Jeg Coughlin is driving right now.

“The plan right now is I’m going to be in the one (the Camaro) Jeg is driving right now, at the beginning of the (2020) season,” Stanfield said.

Stanfield has qualified for all five Countdown races – Reading, Pa., St. Louis, Charlotte, N.C., Dallas and Las Vegas. He’s attempting to make it 6-for-6 at the season finale – the Auto Club Finals in Pomona, Calif., Friday through Sunday.

“It has definitely helped me a lot (to run these six races),” Stanfield said. “Obviously I’m still learning every time I get in the car. I think these (six races) were a good thing to get a couple of bugs out of me before the season starts next year. I just have to continue working on making it perfect.”  

Stanfield made personal history for himself at the 12th annual NTK NHRA Carolina Nationals in Charlotte during the Countdown.

Stanfield drove a Camaro for Elite Motorsports to the semifinals before losing to eventual race champion Deric Kramer. That was the first time in Stanfield’s career he has made it to the semis in the NHRA’s Mello Yello Series Pro Stock class.

Aaron’s father is Greg Stanfield. Greg competed in Pro Stock from 2002-2014, winning three national events and finishing a career-best second in the point standings in 2010,

Aaron Stanfield made his Pro Stock debut at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis in 2014. He has run five career Pro Stock races, the last being at the U.S. Nationals in 2015 before Reading, Pa., in September this season.

Aaron is running Super Stock and Pro Stock in Pomona this weekend.

“If you would have told me at the beginning of this year that I was going to have the opportunity to hop in one of these (Pro Stock) cars I probably would have laughed at you a little bit,” Stanfield said. “But, that’s just how it goes, and I like to think of myself as an opportunist and we are going to take advantage of this opportunity and try and make the best of it and see where it goes.”
