079_79.jpgFrom 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM the Streets of Kingman, Arizona, were alive with over 175 racecars and street machines. Included in this eclectic mix were Paul Crifasi's Race Chicks apparel-backed TAFC and the awesome 33% nitro- powered 1955 Chevy truck from the shop of Southwest Custom Trucks.

The quickest and fastest vehicle on Beale Street was neither of these, however. That honor went to Earl Kendrick and his beautiful bracket dragster, which logged a best pass of 3.357-seconds at 112 mph. Remember, this was for a 300-foot blast, just like the sand drag guys do it. Earl, of San Diego, is a former Top Fuel driver, and now, at 70 years of age he’s having a blast.

Bill Webber's Arizona-based blown dragster was second quickest and fastest with a mark of 3.72, 109.

The grandstands, fences and classic train in Kingman were covered as more than 2,000 fans showed up to support the www.route66wingsandwheels.com group which is trying to establish an eighth-mile track and museum in Kingman. As proof of the local interest and support, announcer Mike Kinney and his partner in crime Russ passed a hat in the stands and collected $1700.

As for the on-track action, in Anderson Toyota's Unlimited class, Matt Rhoades took home the big prize when he wheeled his former Pro Stock ’75 Chevy Monza to a mark of 4.21, 75. The Goodguys-backed Hot Rod class was a fan favorite, with Brian Manske's awesome 1984 Chevy Camaro from Mesa, Arizona, taking the win at 4.50, 95 mph, which was the top speed for all doorslammers. Brian is a regular on the PSCA tour as well.

The JMH Medical Billing-sponsored Pure Stock class was won by Kingman resident Rick Schimkat, who paced his 2004 Subaru to a 5.40-second, 68 mph lap. In the Grandpa’s Kitchen Sports Compact class, Craig Laven, of Lake Havasu, Arizona, swept top honors in his 2007 VW GTI. His best effort yielded a result of 6.50, 59 mph. In the Bike final, Larry Forbes rode his Lake Havasu-based 1975 Kawasaki to victory at 4.41, 83 mph, over Dan Nelson's unique sand dragster.

Congratulations to Brian Devincenzi, John Beale, Brain Giglio, Jack Wells, Dan Reaume, Chuck Tomovich and all of the volunteers who made this event possible.
