Brett ‘The Boss’ Stevens from the Jack Daniel’s Racing team was the standout performer over weekend at the Westernationals Drag Racing Championship with a dominating display in the Top Doorslammer bracket, with teammate Troy McLean also taking out Top Bike.

In front of a huge crowd at the Perth Motorplex, Stevens lead from the start with a 6.02 second Top Qualifying effort before charging through the Elimination rounds with consistent 6.0 and 6.1 second passes at over 240 mph to take home the winners trophy.

In addition, he also took away the event low ET (6.01 seconds) and high mph (243.24 mph/391.45 kph) bonus points and has catapulted himself to second place in the ANDRA Top Doorslammer Championship Series with just two rounds remaining.

“We had a plan as a team coming into the Westernationals to back up Kath’s (Stevens) World Record performances from Sydney two weeks ago here in Perth with some good results and I think we have definitely done that,” Stevens said.

“The Perth Motorplex really turned on a fantastic event and I think we have now proved that we have the goods in our Falcon Top Doorslammers to take it to anyone.”

“I would really like to dedicate this win to my great crew who have worked long and hard in getting everything right in the cars, thanks guys.”

“Come the Tin Top Titles next month at Willowbank Raceway we will again have some high expectations as a team to have myself as well as Kath (Stevens) and Steve (Packman) running the numbers I did here this weekend.”

In Top Bike Troy McLean showed why he is the current Championship series leader with another stellar performance despite a tough road through the Elimination rounds.

McLean began the event in style sitting in the number 2 position after Qualifying a mere 1 thousandth of a second off the top spot in what was one of the most competitive fields in recent times.

He was then made to work hard for his Quarter-Final and Semi-Final wins against Perth locals Jay Upton, who showed he is beginning to return to form and Mark Ashelford who set a number of personal best times over the weekend.

He then faced off against Kiwi Athol Williams in the Final who was looking for his second win in a row after relegating ‘The Boss’ to runner up at the Summernationals, but McLean took the win a great side-by-side pass that had the crowd on its feet.

“It was one of the toughest fields in long time with no easy rounds, to get through even the Quarter-Finals you had run deep into the 6 second zone which was great for the fans that came out to watch,” McLean said.

“To get back in the winners circle here in Perth was great against such quality competition and is also a really big boost for my Championship hopes.”

“I now have a 122 point lead over the field with just two rounds to go so will be working hard at the Nitro Champs in May to consolidate this and put me in a strong position to take out the title.”

Other Brett Stevens Racing team members Steve Packman in the SP Racing Top Doorslammer and Kath Stevens in the second Jack Daniel’s Falcon also had strong events, both mixing it at the pointy end of the field during early qualifying with solid 6.2 second passes before eventually being bumped to the number 9 and 10 positions respectively.
