SAMPEY, GANN AND STOFFER JOIN 6-SECOND CLUB

Angelle Sampey became the sixth member of the Mickey Thompson 6-Second Pro Stock Bike Club Friday afternoon when she posted a 6.939 seconds on her U.S. Army Suzuki. One session later, Shawn Gann and Karen Stoffer closed out the elite group with six-second runs of their own.

"I've done a lot of things in my career but I can't remember ever being so excited," the 36-year-old Sampey said. "I had to lean my bike over on the headers because I couldn't wait for someone to come over and hold it (at the top end). I just started jumping up and down and going crazy.

"This was a huge goal of mine because it's probably going to be the only performance club that I'll get a chance to be in. My teammate, Antron Brown, got in the club in Sonoma but he wouldn't celebrate because he wanted me to be in it to. Now we can celebrate together. This is so awesome."

Sampey followed up her run with a 6.977 in the second round which gives her the provisional national record. If it holds, she'll earn 20 bonus points.

"Considering where we are in the season and where I am in the points, this is the best chance I'll have to set a record and we could sure use those points," Sampey said. "I love this track and it loves me for whatever reason. I got my first win here and I'd love to get the record and another win this weekend. Then we'd be right back in this chase."

"I couldn't be happier for Angelle," Brown said. "I was standing on the line when she left and I could tell after the first 60 feet she was on a run. I was going crazy because I knew how bad she wanted this."

The eight-member Mickey Thompson 6-Second Pro Stock Bike Club filled its' final two spots in the later session when Gann posted a 6.952 and Stoffer a 6.970. All three racers will pocket $500 each for the effort.
