WHAT'S NEW IN 2008 WITH C.I.F.C.A.

jam_air_fromtesting.jpgThe 2008 season will mark the 24th year of competition for the Alcohol Funny Cars from the California Independent Funny Car Association. Last year 34 active teams competed in at least one event in the 2007 season. Looking forward to the 2008 Season, CIFCA currently has added 3 new active teams while only losing 7th place points finisher Chris Bennett who is moving up to Nostalgia Funny Car. In addition to the new teams, some of the returning teams to CIFCA have made significant changes for 2008.

New Teams- 

Bill Sweeny from Alta Loma, CA works for Standard Abrasives in the Motorsports division and has recently completed his 1985 Ford Tempo Funny Car and plans to run the full season with CIFCA under the Sweeny Motorsports Umbrella. Bill purchased the car from Virgil Hartman and took a little over 3 years to completely restore the car and make it perfect. The car features Chevrolet power with a power glide transmission.

Skip Dotson from Tucson, AZ will be at the wheel of the DFR racing funny car for the 2008 CIFCA Season. This new team from Arizona has just recently completed their car and has begun testing at SIR in Tucson in preparation for the upcoming season. 

eric_gates_2008.jpgarizona_thunder_new.jpgEric Gates from Fallbrook, CA has completed the Gates Motors Supply Pontiac Firebird for competition. The car features a TFX Hemi with a Power Glide transmission. The team is supported by: Auto Power, Brooks Rods, B& T balancing, CNC Brake Products, Continental Converters, Engle Cams, & ISC Racers Tape.   

Returning Teams-

Will Martin and his Jam-Air Motorsports Team from San Dimas, CA, finished 8th in 2007 points standings in their first year out. The team has signed EMCOR Services/Mesa Energy Systems Inc. as primary sponsor of the team. In addition the Jam-Air team has also signed Thermo Power Industries as an associate sponsor. The team recently just completed a very successful test session in Bakersfield in preparation for the 2008 Season. The team will also continue to receive support from DJ Safety, Photomation, Pro Manufacturing, & GS 610 Brake Products. 

Jamie Leppenan in the Arizona Thunder from Sacramento, CA has recently just completed mounting a brand new body for the 2008 Season. The CIFCA President has spent countless hours doing all the metal work and painting on his own, under the watchful eye of Frank Fuller from Fuller Fabrications. The team will begin testing in March and will continue to receive support from: Scottsdale Automotive Specialists, Matco Tools, K & J Auto Parts, & Fuller Fabrications.

Becky Sylvester from Saint George, UT and her California Rattler Team recently just completed increasing the horsepower on their car with a brand new, billet Chevrolet motor for her car. The team finished 9th in 2008 and will continue receiving support from: Andrus Trucking, Bormann Steel, and Warrior Blowers.

Sponsor News 

CIFCA is pleased to announce that Greenfuel Solar has signed on to be the presenting sponsor of the fan favorite Burnout Challenge. The contest, which takes place during the second round of qualifying lets the fans pick the best burnout. The car in which the fans pick receive a 100 dollar bonus.

All other bonus program sponsors including Enderle, Good Vibrations Motorsports, RBS Superchargers, and Team California Rattler will be returning for 2008.
