The Torco Race Fuel Pro Modified division received the lion’s share of rule adjustments for 2008 in the IHRA’s listing of rule changes for their professional divisions. Other classes receiving adjustments included the Alcohol Funny Car division and the Pro Stock category.

For the first time in the history of the soon-to-be 18-year old Pro Modified division, turbocharged combinations will be acceptable but late model body styles won’t.

The following are the IHRA rules adjustments for 2008:

The following are the IHRA rules adjustments for 2008:

PRO MODIFIED  

All body, front end and wing designs must be accepted prior to competition.  All coupe and sedan body styles must be 2000 or older to be considered for use.

Chevrolet Cobalt, Cavalier, Pontiac GTO, G6 GXP, Grand Am,  Dodge Stratus, Ford ZX-2, Mustang, Mercury Cougar and Toyota Solara will not be permitted in IHRA Pro Modified. WEIGHT MINIMUMS:  Nitrous entries 2,425 lbs. Supercharged entries 2,725 lbs. Accepted Nostalgia body styles may deduct 25 lbs from minimum weight. (Example. 53 Studebaker 55, 57 Chevy and Buick.) 38 Chevy and  41 Willys may deduct 50 lbs from minimum weight.   CUBIC INCH LIMIT:  820 cubic inches with a maximum of 5.300 bore center on nitrous oxide assisted entries  CLUTCH:   Lock-up units prohibited.  The release bearing engagement / disengagement may not be controlled by any air, hydraulic, or pneumatic devices and must be controlled only by the driver’s foot.  All levers in the clutch assembly must be attached to the pressure ring. TURBOCHARGING: Turbocharged entries will be included in the 2008 format.  All entries will follow the Supercharged guidelines except for the following:  650 cubic inch maximum, 91 MM twin turbochargers maximum, 3 disc clutch permitted, 5 speed transmission maximum.

Additional roll cage padding will be mandatory for the 2008 season. 

PRO STOCK

WEIGHT MINIMUMS:  2,425 lbs. CUBIC INCH LIMIT:  827

CLUTCH:   Lock-up units prohibited.  The release bearing engagement / disengagement may not be controlled by any air, hydraulic, or pneumatic devices and must be controlled only by the driver’s foot.  All levers in the clutch assembly must be attached to the pressure ring.

Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Classes SUPER STOCK

3 Fuel injection classes will be included in the Modified section in Super Stock with the same cubic inch and weight minimum limitations.   One 90mm IHRA accepted throttle body permitted. SS/AFI    7.50  lbs to 8.49

SS/BFI    8.50  lbs to 9.49

SS/CFI    9.50  lbs to 10.49 All classes may move up or down one class from the original classification. Steering:  Super Stock Production, Modified, Modified Stock may utilize rack and Pinion units on all entries.  STOCK All classes must use a minimum of a 3.2A-1 fire jacket.

All classes may move up or down one class from the original classification.   Pure Stock entries may not use a two step. 

Line lock and two step functions must be independently wired and not activated any other function on the entry. 

GENERAL INFORMATION

Competitors in AFC, PS, PM, TS and TD entering the World Finals will be awarded one free Black flag waiver prior to the start of competition provided they have not recorded a black flag penalty during the season.

Records in Super Stock and Stock will no longer receive bonus points.

All classes that require gloves and boots:  If the class mandates a -15 suit then -15   gloves must be worn.  If the class mandates a-20 suit then -20 gloves and boots must be worn.
