ROCKINGHAM'S FALL BRACKET NATIONALS

Former Carolina Coalition champion Chris Plott just missed out on a sweep of the Footbrake titles and teammates Allen Britt, E.J. Womack and Nick Womack won everything else during the annual Fall Bracket Nationals at Steve Earwood’s Rockingham Dragway.

Britt beat Joe Gary of Greenwood, S.C., in an all-dragster final to claim Saturday’s $10,000 prize in the Top Eliminator class and Womack matched that with a Sunday win over Todd Whited of Richlands, Va., and his 1995 Oldsmobile.

Nick Womack then won the World’s Quickest Bracket Race and a $2,000 bonus from Nesbitt Performance Engines.  Brett Nesbitt was a semifinalist in the race-within-a-race restricted to cars capable of covering the eighth mile course in fewer than 4.35 seconds.

After beating Tim Cowick of Lumber Bridge for the $1,500 Footbrake purse on Saturday, Plott drove back into the final round on Sunday before losing to Derek Harris of McLanesville and his 1977 Chevy Nova.  Plott got the early jump on Harris, but his 6.697 was too quick by .003 to match his 6.700 target.

The Jr. Dragster division was dominated by Ty Randolph of Ware Shoals and Bethany Crick of Nortonville, Ky., who split the two titles.  Randolph beat Crick on Saturday. Crick returned the favor on Sunday.
