MCCLENATHAN ACCEPTS SCELZI CHALLENGE

There’s a new challenge awaiting Cory McClenathan when he joins fellow NHRA drivers Ron Capps, J.R. Todd, Morgan Lucas and Del Worsham in the Gary Scelzi & Friends All-Star Challenge Saturday night, June 16, at Plaza Park Raceway in Visalia, Calif.

It’s a fund-raiser for the one-fifth-mile clay oval where Scelzi’s 10-year-old son Dominic regularly competes in a Restricted 600cc Mini-Sprint.  Scelzi and his cohorts will be driving 600cc Mini-Sprints. “This should be a lot of fun but, that said, all the guys who are racing are as competitive as I am,” said McClenathan, driver of the FRAM Boost Top Fuel dragster, who flew in from Indianapolis for the special function.  “We all like to drive different kinds of race cars and I’ll just be adding another new one to my list.

“Scelzi, Capps and I have been racing karts against each other every March at Infineon Raceway and we always give it our best shot there, so this will be no different.  It is also for a good cause.”

Scelzi also plans to give a special donation to D.R.A.W., the Drag Racing Association of Women.  D.R.A.W. provides assistance to injured drag racers.
