rocky bootsRocky Boots and Don Schumacher Racing announced a two-year marketing partnership extension for the 2015 Dodge Charger R/T driven by two-time and reigning NHRA Funny Car world champion Matt Hagan.

The new agreement will have Rocky as the primary sponsor for Hagan at six NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series events each year. Hagan and the Rocky Boots/Mopar Express Lane Dodge have won two of the past four Funny Car championships (2011 and 2014).

"We are thrilled to announce this new multiyear agreement with DSR and Matt Hagan," said Jordan Gottke, director of marketing for Rocky and Georgia Boot.

"Our first few years of this relationship gained us significant pieces of business, one being Matt Hagan Outdoors and the other with DSR sponsor Matco Tools. Additionally, Rocky couldn't be prouder to work with a championship winning organization and with Matt and his race team."

DSR owner Don Schumacher is happy to start 2015 knowing Rocky will remain on board through the 2017 season.

"Rocky is such a natural fit for Matt and DSR," Schumacher said. "We're thrilled to extend our partnership with Rocky, and couldn't have been happier that Matt and his team were able to win a world championship with such a supportive sponsor like Rocky."

The partnership between DSR and Rocky, which began in 2012, has worked perfectly for Hagan, a cattle farmer and avid outdoorsman in Christiansburg, Va. Hagan, 32, and his father, David Hagan, opened Matt Hagan Outdoors in 2013 in Radford, Va., that features Rocky boots and gear. The store's success in less than a year required moving to a larger location (7327 Peppers Ferry Rd. in Radford) last month.

Matt Hagan Outdoors was the site of a world championship celebration on Dec. 19 that featured Hagan and his championship Rocky/Mopar Funny Car.

"It's pretty incredible to re-up with Rocky for two years," Hagan said. "The Rocky brand speaks for itself and to be associated with those folks makes us very proud. We're honored that Rocky is staying with us. It's very humbling.

"It's a relationship that fits in with what I do on the ranch and our family's outdoor activities. We do a lot of hunting and fishing, and I'm very proud to be associated with a sponsor like Rocky that I truly am 100 percent involved with every day of my life.

"It was very special to win a couple races with the Rocky body on our Funny Car and to win a world championship with them last year."

Hagan and his Rocky/Mopar team led by crew chief Dickie Venables and assistant Michael Knudsen got off to a shocking start preparing to defend their 2014 championship, which is the 13th for DSR.

At a Dec. 8 test session at Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter, Fla., the team's last run was completed in 3.954 seconds at 323.97 mph for the quickest run ever by a Funny Car.

Hagan said he and his Rocky/Mopar team were inspired the previous day by a visit from Schumacher, who was in Florida recovering from successful cancer surgery the prior month.

"That was for Don," he said of the run. "It was great to see him. To see the smile on his face, was huge for me. Everything we do is for him. A run like this, in his backyard, was exactly what we wanted to do for him."

Hagan and DSR's other six teams open the 2015 NHRA Mello Yello Series Winternationals opener Feb. 5-8 in Pomona, Calif.
