ps winner3This season appears to be Dave Connolly's final one as a Pro Stock driver. And with consecutive national event wins and a rapid climb in the points standings, it appears he's pulling out all the stops to ensure a Pro Stock championship before reportedly heading to Top Fuel racing.

Sources have indicated Connolly is Bob Vandergriff Jr.'s replacement yet-to-be-named.

"I'm trying harder than ever [to win this championship]," Connolly said. "The whole team is pulling in the same direction; we all want this. We are a fairly young team and doing the best we can. If it works out ... great. If it doesn't then we know we gave it our all. We're out here racing to win every round. At the end of the day, or the end of the year, if we win the championship ... great."

Reportedly Bob Vandergriff Racing will name their new driver during the NHRA Las Vegas event, and will begin testing the day after the race.

If Connolly gets the nod, he will do so with the blessings of current team owner Johnny Gray.

"I have told Dave I thought it was a great deal for him," said Gray. "Those are good people. Dave's an awesome driver. He can move on up the ladder."

With Connolly's departure, Gray said at Indy there are "some things in the works" to field a third Pro Stock car in 2015.

Connolly said if he does leave the Gray Motorsports team, he won't be far away.

"The one part about leaving that would make it most difficult is the Gray family has been a family to me," said Connolly. "They are good people and I cannot thank them enough for this opportunity. I'm not going too far. We will be at the race track the same time each weekend. This relationship goes beyond racing."
