unnamedThe racing community is truly one big extended family.

This fact was brought home with the recent announcement that veteran competitor Ronnie Davis has stepped up to rally racer support for a family in need.

Back in 1990, when Davis was competing in the IHRA's Top Sportsman class he became friends with IHRA official Donnie Crowder.

Since 2005, Donnie has been battling cancer and now his wife Debra also has been diagnosed with cancer.

At the PDRA event at Virginia Motorsports Park in July, racers were given the opportunity to buy $100 raffle tickets for the chance to win a $4,300 Chilly Willy engine cooling system.

The raffle raised money for the Crowders, and caught the attention of Davis.

“In the drivers' meeting I spoke to ( PDRA Race Director) Bob Harris and I just felt something come over me and I needed to do more,” Davis said.

With helping the Crowders solely on his mind, Davis started a raffle for a top-of-the-line $7,800 golf cart. All the money raised from the $100 raffle tickets is going to the Crowders, who live in Henderson, N.C.

“I just want to do what I can for a family in need,” Davis said.

Davis said the drawing for the golf cart will be held Oct. 11 at the PDRA event at Virginia Motorsports Park.

Anyone who is interested in purchasing a raffle ticket may contact Davis at 678-482-9977 or by email at rond@bellsouth.net or via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/pdraracing/posts/536000539833712.

Those who are interested in purchasing a raffle ticket may send checks to:

Tickets also will be sold at the PDRA races as well. Once at least 78 tickets are sold a drawing will take place. According to Davis, “You do not have to be present to win," and anyone can buy as many tickets as they wish.

"This is all about helping Donnie and Debra and nothing about myself or Davis Golf Cart Sales,” Davis said. “This will give each of you a chance to help someone we know in need.”
