RACING LEGENDS HONORED DURING NEW ENGLAND HOT ROD REUNION

 

NewEnglandHotRodReunionThe second day of the NHRA Motorsports Museum New England Hot Rod Reunion presented by AAA Insurance honored the legends of racing during the course of a busy afternoon. Those in attendance at New England Dragway and Motorsports Park were able to recount magical moments in racing by those who made them.
 
Grand marshal Bob Frey was honored as the voice of the NHRA for many decades and also led the interviews of the other honorees.  Gil Coraine, John Healey, Al Hanna, ‘Jungle Pam’ Hardy, and George Weiler entertained a packed house with stories of their heroic days during the early years of the sport. The honorees also took part in two autograph sessions during the day.

“To see the legends of the sport interact with the fans and each other is the heart of these events,” said Larry Fisher, executive director of the NHRA Motorsports Museum. “All the honorees bring a unique perspective to the sport and poured time, effort and passion to make what the sport is today.”
 
Racing was also on the docket as nostalgic quarter-mile drag racing thrilled those in the grandstands. Tony Bartone leads Nostalgia Top Fuel, Rick Bernasconi is the7.0 Index leader and Herbert Roby Jr. leads the 7.5 category.
 
The weekend concludes on Sunday with eliminations in all categories following pre-race ceremonies. Also taking place on Sunday will be the famous Cacklefest™ as dozens of classic cars will come to life to end the weekend of racing.
 
Gates open at 8 a.m. on Sunday for the start of the final day with on track activity to begin at 9:45 a.m.
