The 16-time world champion added another line to his storybook career as he set both ends of the Bandimere Speedway track record with a time of 4.049 seconds at 318.39 mph Friday night to capture the provisional No. 1 qualifier position for the Mile-High Nationals.

“My car will run fast on the other end, it’s getting it to leave early without smoking the tires that’s the key,” Force said. “It wasn’t that hot (Friday), but everyone was programmed on how to run. Robert (Hight) and me were at the end of that final session and we stepped up and went for it.”

If this top qualifying spot holds it will be Force’s fifth at Bandimere and third of the season.

“You look out and see a packed house and I want to win without a doubt,” Force said. “But, I love racing, and coming to Bandimere is awesome, the fans are great, the track is great and this what motivates me. It’s all I’ve got, and I love it.”

Hight qualified No. 2 Friday with a 4.055-second run.

“There’s no air up here (at Bandimere Speedway) so we build our superchargers to run up here,” Force said. “We thank the guys at the shop for giving us good stuff so we can run fast.”

Force arrived at Bandimere Speedway after a whirlwind experience at the 2014 ESPYS Wednesday at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

“It was great to see guys like Peyton Manning there and it was a really good show,” Force said.

Force is aiming for his eighth win at the Mile-High Nationals and the 141st win of his career.
