ROOKIE PRO STOCK DRIVER GRAY GETTING MORE SHOW AND GO

DSD 9910Pro Stock driver Jonathan Gray is still new to Pro Stock but is quickly finding his comfort zone. This weekend the rookie driver getss a brand new paint scheme for his Gray Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro.

"It was a neat car being matte black, but I just felt like it was time for a change and decided to put a little color in it," said Gray, who is keeping the car under wraps until the event. "The folks at Fine Line came up with a design, and I think it's going to look really nice on the racetrack."

In addition to a brand new look for the Gray Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro, an updated engine combination, built in-house, will also be on tap.

"I guess you could say it's a fresh start," said Gray, who licensed in a Pro Stock car just prior to making his national event debut earlier this season in Gainesville, where he qualified No. 13. Gray also competed two weeks ago at the Four-Wide Nationals in Charlotte and qualified three places higher in the No. 10 spot.

"I'm excited. I think if we can go out there and just be conservative in the first qualifying session on Friday and make a decent run, we have a good chance of ending up in the top half," said Gray. "That would be a great start."

Although Gray hasn't run this particular engine combination before, his car will likely warm right to it as Gray Motorsports teammate Dave Connolly ran a similar engine when he drove the car at the first two races of the year.

"The car is set up a little bit different now, but between our crew chiefs, Tommy Lee, Tommy Utt and Justin Elkes, they'll get it going," said Gray. "We're taking it into a race without knowing exactly what it's going to do, but it's Houston and the air has the potential to be pretty good. We should be fine.

"Like I said, if we go in Friday conservative for Q1 and go A to B and get down the track, then we can gather some good data and go up there and try to lay one down on Friday night. We're looking forward to seeing how this goes, but I have a pretty good feeling."
