AUSSIE RACERS PREPARE FOR AUSSIE WINTERNATS

lamittinaWhile the recovery from two massive days of the Santo’s Super 3 Extreme Drag Race presented by Uplift Cranes and Titan Cranes continues for most, the team at Willowbank Raceway are already hard at work preparing for the FUCHS Winternationals (5-8 June) as well as a range of events to be held in the lead up.

Within a six week period, Queensland’s premier drag racing facility will play host to round two of the JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series (26 April), round four of the Street Series (3 May), round three of the QLD Drag Racing Championships (17 May), the Winters Warm-Up (31 May-1June) and the 2014 FUCHS Winternationals (5-8 June).

Willowbank Raceway CEO Tony Manson said there were busy times ahead for the Willowbank Raceway team preparing for the largest championship drag race event held outside of North America.

“The FUCHS Winternationals attracts more than 30,000 fans and 500-odd racers from all across the country and often also from New Zealand and the United States, and in 2014 returns to a Thursday to Sunday race format across the Queen’s birthday long weekend,” said Manson.

winternationals sat“The weekend’s Santo’s Super 3 Extreme Drag Race presented by Uplift Cranes and Titan Cranes was just amazing and we can’t wait to have the Top Fuel and Top Alcohol racers back at Willowbank Raceway in just six weeks, joining household names from the Top Doorslammer, Pro Stock, Top Fuel Motorcycle and Pro Stock Motorcycle brackets as well as a long list of exciting support categories.”

While the fans are waiting for the FUCHS Winternationals to come to Willowbank Raceway there will be plenty of on-track action, starting this weekend with the JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series.

Racers in all brackets of this Series are asked to nominate a ‘home track’ for the Series. Leading the way to Willowbank Raceway will be last round winners and points leaders Rodney Hansen (FG Loy & Sons Earthmoving Eighth Mile Outlaws), Dylan Leo (Diamond T Products Junior Dragster), Andrew Pinkstone (RD Williams Excavator Parts Modified), Michael Beaton (Queensland Nameplate Group Modified Bike), Michael Schaper (Ice Slushee Super Sedan) and Rob Price (John William Auto Sales Super Street).

“The JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series is sure to provide a great day out at Willowbank Raceway this weekend as it takes in its second round of the year,” said Series Director John Winterburn.

“With all of the brackets currently being led by racers who nominate Willowbank Raceway as their home track, the competition is sure to be high as the locals try to extend their leads and the visitors look to claw back championship positions.

“With only one round run so far it is still anyone’s game!”
