The third annual Jeg’s U.S. Open Bracket Championships presented by
Racecraft Chassis and LB Trailer Sales held at Tri-State Dragway May 31-June 3
is quickly becoming one of the premier events in sportsman drag racing. Hosted
by the Southwest Ohio facility and promoted by longtime racers Mike Fuqua and
Dave Szerlag, the Jeg’s U.S. Open Bracket Championships promises to host a huge
crowd of sportsman racings top competitors, competing for cash and prizes
totaling over $300,000! And in the tradition of the U.S. Open, it’s not just
the event winners that go home smiling: the Jeg’s U.S. Open literally offers
something for nearly every competitor!
This years festivities kick off Thursday, May 31 with the Nitroplate
Thursday warm-up, a $5,000-to-win event to start the weekend. Friday and
Saturday bring a pair of $20,000-to-win events that offer the best payback of
any big dollar event in the nation. Sunday’s $10,000-to-win finale features the
same pay structure. The event boasts just one round of buybacks (first round
only), and there will be no buybacks if there are over 256 entries in round one
(in 2006 over 300 entrants jammed the staging lanes, creating a buy back free
weekend)! In addition to the huge $20,000 top prize and excellent top-to-bottom
purse, the Jeg’s U.S. Open also offers a host of other prizes throughout each
days event.
The best losing package of each round (Friday thru Sunday) will receive a
prize package worth roughly $1,000--that’s for each round, each day. Barry
Grant, Inc. sponsors the round one prize: awarding a Demon Carburetor, BG400
Fuel Pump, and BG 4-port regulator to the best losing package in each day’s
first round. Second round’s best losing package will earn a set of Hooker
Competition Headers of their choice. The third round prize is a choice of 4
Mickey Thompson Racing tires, while the best losing package in round four earns
a complete “Smart Start” 24-volt starting system courtesy of CSR Performance
Products! Round five’s best losing package will receive a spool and axle kit
from Moser Engineering, while the best loser of round six will earn a set of
double-adjustable shocks and springs from Strange Engineering! Round seven’s
award is a race oil pan, pump, pickup, and valve covers courtesy of Milodon, and
the semi-final round’s best losing package will earn an intake manifold and
valve covers of choice from Brodix Cylinder Heads.
In addition to the “Best Losing Package” awards, the event will also award
racers for various feats throughout the weekend. Hughes Performance will award
the quickest E.T. of Saturday’s time trial (Door car and Open Wheel) with a
torque converter of their choice. Quick Fuel Technologies will award the last
standing door car in competition (Friday-Sunday) with the carburetor of their
choice! Biondo Racing Products is back once again to award the infamous
“Practice Makes Perfect” award, which gives the worst losing reaction time of
round one each day a new Biondo Racing Products Hand Held Practice Tree!
Technocraft Cabinets will sponsor the 2007 “Hard Luck” award, and the unlucky
recipient will earn $750 same as cash toward their Technocraft purchase. The
2007 Long Distance Award winner will earn a $500 Auto Meter Gift Certificate.
Additionally, the best package in competition each day will earn a special
prize: In Friday’s event, the best overall package will earn a complete
Terminator Fuel Injection system from KillerRons.com. Saturday’s best run takes
home a complete 1.80 powerglide from Masta Performance, while Sunday’s top
performance earns a complete rotating assembly courtesy of Ohio
Crankshaft!
Folk Race Cars will once again sponsor the Bounty Hunter program, which
will award a $500 gift package to each competitor who knocks out the previous
days winner (Saturday and Sunday), while Instant Karma Racing and Boitnott’s
Custom Paint will award the Best Appearing and Best Engineered cars of the event
with a special plaque, jacket, and $500 gift certificate toward labor.
Additionally, each of the major dragster chassis builders participate in
the Manufacturer’s Cup, a special points program for chassis builders that
determines the most successful chassis builder of the U.S. Open Bracket
Championships. For the manufacturers, this offers an extra feather in the cap
(the defending champion is Mullis Race Cars). For racers, this means an extra
$500-to-win and $250-to-runner-up in contingency from your chassis builder!
Engine builders participate in a similar contingency program that awards winners
$200 and runner-ups $100 contingency from most major engine builders.
As if all that weren’t enough, the third annual U.S. Open Bracket
Championships will also host a pair of special events on Friday and Saturday.
Friday, an elite field of 64 pre-entrants will compete for a brand new turn-key
Danny Nelson Racecraft Chassis Dragster. The machine comes complete with a Jeff
Taylor Enginers 598-cubic-inch powerplant and will be race ready. In fact, the
event’s winner will receive a free entry to compete in the machine for the
remainder of the weekend! There are currently spots available for this elite
event: entry is $1,000 and the event will pay runner-up and semi-finalists
cash! For more information, contact Mike Fuqua or Dave Szerlag!
Saturday night will feature the first annual Country Motors Trailer Sales
No-Box Hi-Roller tournament: a 32-car pre-entered field of some of the biggest
names in No-Box competition. Each entrant (the field is full) has ponied up
$1,000 to compete in a high stakes, winner-take-all match for $32,000! Stay
tuned for a complete entrant list in this high profile, high stakes
eliminator!
In addition, Saturday evening J.W. Performance will host a special “Happy
Hour” culminated in the annual Pit-Pro Golf Cart race. J.W. will provide cold
beverages and a live DJ for the event, while the winner of the crowd pleasing
(and often death-defying) golf cart event will earn a set of custom wheels and
tires for their winning golf cart courtesy of Pit-Pro custom carts!
